00:09<sney>sleser: while I haven't seen that happen personally, we can't do much bug hunting with the non-free flash player because it's closed source. are these videos on youtube etc? I know youtube has the option to switch to html5 playing, which doesn't require the special plugin.
00:10<sleser>its not youtube
00:10<sleser>http://kinofilms.tv/film/lyubimyj-zyat/31866/
00:10<sleser>if you dont understand language . leave it on minimize it
00:10<sleser>when it stops you might know better what the problem may be
00:11<sney>I'm not going to watch some video and wait for it to possibly stop playing.
00:12<sleser>np
00:12<sney>search the streaming site for the option to switch to html5. or try in chrome/chromium
00:12<sleser>debian has crome ?
00:13<sney>google's chrome package for debian works. it has the usual privacy caveats of the windows version. debian has chromium packaged, which is barely different, though you need to install the pepperflashplugin-nonfree package separately, it's still different software than adobe flash
00:13<sleser>np
00:13<sleser>thank you
00:14<sney>you're welcome.

I gave some command in the terminal to understand what proprietary drivers were in ubuntu 's video card driver so that I could try t

02:29<silicon>Hello, are there any other channels that provide help for debian questions?
02:32<babilen>silicon: Just be patient, it is early in Europe still and the American populace will be mostly sleeping by now. There really is no need to ask people who just joined the channel and I consider that very rude behaviour.
02:33<babilen>dpkg: tell lasagn4 -about bat
02:34<silicon>Good point babilien. Perhaps I shall try another time.
02:34-!-thatguychuck [~charles@host-240-207-107-208.midco.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
02:36<babilen>lasagn4: But try with a sources.list such as http://paste.debian.net/107233/ -- Run "apt-get update" and then install again. You probably want the virtualbox version in wheezy-backports anyway (apt-get -t wheezy-backports install ...). It should also be noted that virtualbox really isn't the best virtualization software on Linux and that you might want to take a look at KVM (and the nice virt-manager that you can use to manage VMs)
02:40<rryoumaa>you like qemu-kvm better than virtualbox?
02:41<babilen>I do indeed.
02:41<rryoumaa>i will try that and virt-manager then
02:41<rryoumaa>was just getting started with virtualbox
02:43<babilen>The only reason people like vbox is because it runs on Windows and OSX too and doesn't require Linux specific features. There seems to be better support for USB passsthrough, but I couldn't care less for that. Linux container (i.e. lxc) are worth a look too and might be a very viable option for whatever you want to do.

04:12<Zaba>or libc6-i386? I'm not sure how libc interacts with multiarch.
04:12<An_Laoch>Zaba: what package is that in ? I cannot fine it with an apt-cache search
04:14<Zaba>An_Laoch, install libc6-i386
04:14<An_Laoch>How ?
04:14<Zaba>the usual way
04:15<Zaba>or hmm
04:15<stderr>On i386 the package is called libc6-i686
04:15<An_Laoch>sorry, I see it now, had a : instead of a -
04:15<Zaba>stderr, he lacks the 32-bit dynamic linker on his 64-bit client system
04:16<Zaba>stderr, I'm just not sure if the 32-bit libc is supposed to be installed using the usual multiarch means
04:16<Zaba>looking at the file list, it appears co-installable, but libc6-i386 exists too and isn't transitional
04:16<stderr>Yes, but the package might not be called ...-i_3_86, but ...-i_6_86.
04:16<Zaba>how confusing
04:16<An_Laoch>something new at least './cpi: error while loading shared libraries: libmpich.so.3: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64'
04:17<stderr>An_Laoch: Long story short: You're trying to run a i386 binary on amd64. It might be easier for you to compile the program on the client instead of the server.
04:17<An_Laoch>OK can try that

04:18<stderr>And I guess that answers my own question: <stderr> Mismatch between archs would give another error, right?
04:18<Zaba>yeah, 'no such file or directory' is when the kernel can't even find the dynamic linker specified in the binary
04:19<Zaba>but it means it understands the format of the binary, so if IA32 binary support was disabled in the kernel that's also be a different error
04:20<An_Laoch>It runs on the client but now fails on the master with the error 'bash: ./cpi: cannot execute binary file'
04:20<Zaba>that's what you get when the kernel can't understand the format (or in this case, the architecture) of the binary
04:20<Zaba>just compile it separately on both systems

04:23<An_Laoch>Does this mean that with NFS4 both server and clients must use the same architecture ??
04:24<Zaba>well, no, it means that when using mpich, it's convenient to have the same binary work on all machines, which is problematic when there's an architecture mismatch
04:25<Zaba>do you have an option to statically link the binary?
04:25<An_Laoch>Zaba, please expand on what you mean
04:26<Zaba>a statically linked 32-bit binary would work on both systems, barring any problems on mpich's side

09:29<dpkg>When a <testing> release becomes frozen, <unstable> tends to partially freeze as well. This is because developers are reluctant to upload radically new software to unstable, in case the frozen software in testing needs minor updates and to fix release critical bugs which keep testing from becoming <stable>.

I don't seem to be able to create an association between .jar files and the OpenJDK runtime. I can right click the .jar and open it with the JDK from there, but if I right-click, head to "properties", and click the "opens with" tab, OpenJDK Runtime isn't listed in the available applications.
15:51<knives47z>I'd like to be able to click a shortcut and have it open directly via OpenJDK instead of having to run to the folder every time, locate the file and right click it.

20:11<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. 23:51<rryoumaa>is this a hard drive error or could it be software? "Jun 29 20:48:21 mybox ntfs-3g[28471]: Trying to read non-allocated mft records (90 > 48): Illegal seek"
23:51<rryoumaa>i just got a new hard drive with ntfs built in (and, to be kind to the next person if i have to return it, i don't want to try mkfs.ext4 on it). so i mounted it and i am getting errors. i'm trying to figure out if they are hardware errors or just errors in debian.
23:55<nevyn>quietone
23:56<rryoumaa>these errors occur upon attempting to read
23:57<SamB>sounds like NTFS corruption to me ;-P
23:59<rryoumaa>meaning the driver or the fs itself but not necessarily the hd?
