I'm upto the part where I am partitioning disks do I need to set it manually not to install to the internal hard drive or can I just tell it to install it all on the external on (ie have it bootable and mount at /)

You might also have better luck in an #irssi channel. My irssi config says there's on one IRCnet but I've never been there
