13:15<moai>hi. i'm new to debian and I have wifi problems. i use networkmanager and gnome3. however, there is no wifi-option availible in the networking settings of gnome3
13:15<moai>networkmanager and the gnome applet are both installed
13:16<moai>also, the networkmanager service is running and i disabled networking.service manually
13:16<babilen>moai: Welcome. What does "lspci -nn|grep -i network" give you? Could you paste the output of that and your /etc/network/interfaces" file to http://paste.debian.net ?
13:16-!-shirish [~quassel@0001358e.user.oftc.net] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
13:16<babilen>moai: You don't have to disable the networking service, you just have to make sure that the interface in question (e.g. wlan0) is not managed by it (i.e. no entry in /e/n/i

13:19<moai>i disabled it during my attempts to fix the problem
13:19<moai>so it seems like i don't have a wlan0 interface at all, right?
13:19<babilen>moai: That looks fine and enabling the networking service should not have any influence on network-manager. What you *do* need for that wireless adapter is firmware though and you have to install that.
13:20<moai>ah, so it's just a missing driver!
13:21<babilen>moai: For that enable non-free and contrib (e.g. by using a /etc/apt/sources.list such as (or rather exactly like) http://paste.debian.net/108577/) and run "apt-get update". Install the firmware package using "apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree" and reload the iwlwifi module (or restart the box)

13:23<babilen>moai: Not quite, but close. lsmod lists loaded modules. You would reload it with "modprobe -r iwlwifi && modprobe iwlwifi" which removes the module and then reinserts it.
13:23-!-tim_ [~tim@177.158.35.139] has quit []
13:24<babilen>It might actually be necessary to reboot, but IIRC reloading the module is enough. You can check the result of that command by looking at the messages in the kernel ring buffer. Run "dmesg|tail -n42" to do so and check that the interface is there now with "ip a". It might be necessary to restart the network-manager service with "service network-manager restart"

18:27<dark-jedi>teage: Googling it shows that Warlock Bar is a component of wbar.
18:27<dark-jedi>teage: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/saucy/man1/wbar.1.html
18:28<dark-jedi>teage: Try purging wbar and see if it goes away.
