02:15<shawn>hello can i please get some help with a compile error?
02:16<shawn>not really a compile error, its just a env problem
02:16<jm_>are you using debian?
02:16<shawn>yes
02:16<jm_>!ask
02:16<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See <smart questions><errors>.

02:40<shawn>ok i tried with this.. no luck export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
02:41<shawn>as far as i can tell pkg0config is not aware of it right, although i'm willing to admit i'm not sure if i'm even using it right
02:44<jm_>you don't need to set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH at all, use pkg-config --list-all and check if it's there
02:44<shawn>its not there
02:45<jm_>then check what package status for it is (dpkg -s)
02:46<shawn>Status: install ok installed
02:46<jm_>which package did you check?
02:46<shawn>dpkg -s libcaja-extension1
02:46<dpkg>Package: libcaja-extension1: Status: install ok installed
02:47<shawn>:D ^
02:47<jm_><themill> do you have libcaja-extension-dev installed?
02:47<shawn>negative
02:47<shawn>i will try that
02:47<themill>shawn: for compiling things, you need -dev packages installed.
02:48<jm_>looking at package contents also helps (i.e. you can notice .pc -- pkgconfig -- files in -dev packages)

11:51<grigori>mtn, yeah, I re-read it now. The problem is, that I can't even see the fglrx-driver package. Is it supposed to be missing from jessie repositories, or am I screwing something up?
11:51<k>grigori I had to get the backports repository and the fglrx-driver from there for my new laptop's vga
11:51<k>it works flawlessly
11:51<grigori>k, so using wheezy repositories for flgrx-driver?
11:51<grigori>(as I understoof backporting, it's the other way around, no?)
11:52<mtn>grigori: you can double check if it is in the repos at this time: http://packages.debian.org
11:52<k>just get the linux-headers installed, and then do a: apt-get install -t wheezy-backports fglrx-driver

11:56<uso>and at the moment there are no fglrx drivers available as far as I know
11:57<uso>*for jessie
11:57<grigori>k, I did, but since I haven't got the fglrx-driver (yet, working on the backport), it kinda seemed irrelevant.
11:57<grigori>uso, yeah, I thought about that as soon as I read the topic, but then people started answering, but I will go there if current suggestion won't work :)
11:57<k>grigori after installing the driver read here: https://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary#configure
11:58<k>It works fine for my new laptop under stable
11:58<uso>grigori: you won't be able to use the drivers from wheezy, the X server ABI has changed

16:22<somiaj>stig: if you boot the installer in uefi mode (this will be an otpion if you have uefi boot enabled) it should create the efi partition for you. Its been a while since I did it, but it does work.
16:23<somiaj>though I think I convereted a unstable box, so I did a lot of things manually, the installer can boot in uefi mode and should have options to create and setup the efi partition for you.
16:23<stig>somiaj, did you do this on a macbook ?
16:23<somiaj>(I do know that macbooks may have other issues beides uefi to work with to get the debian kernel to boot correctly, so keep reading on that wiki, I don't use apple hardware myself)
16:24<somiaj>I have seen others do it just fine, usually the issues I see people with on machbook pro is setting up the correct boot flags for the kernel to get everything to work correct.

21:08<Thekinks-Lola>will debian-7.6.0-i386-netinst.iso.torrent be the best one for me to use? I'm just asking as i have 1cdr
21:08<jmcnaught>Thekinks-Lola: is your computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
21:08<Thekinks-Lola>32 and yes i'm tkaeing the right bits for my bites
21:09<jmcnaught>Thekinks-Lola: that's the one for 32bit. It can also be copied to a USB stick if that's easier for you. You might also want to use the image that includes non-free firmwares
21:10<jmcnaught>!firmware image
21:10<dpkg>Unofficial <netinst> images - containing non-free Debian <firmware> packages - for installing Debian 7 "Wheezy" are available from http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/current/ . See also <install guide>.
