04:55<sven>and, when troubleshooting networking, always ping with -n to avoid dns lookup issues

12:26<jmcnaught>Tazmainian: why not use /etc/rc.local?
12:27<anotherman>not heard about that :P
12:27<anotherman>thanks
12:27<Tazmainian>jmcnaught: what is the command to update that one ?
12:28<Tazmainian>jmcnaught: if I use ln, can I go lets say my script is called keyboardmode.sh -> ln keyboarmode.sh /etc/rc.local/keyboardmode
12:28<jmcnaught>anotherman: to do what you want to do, you probably need to make sure that your init script is running after networking is started. Are you sure you want to though, most admins prefer to check the list of what's being updated manually, so they know what's going on
12:28<jmcnaught>anotherman: you could "/msg dpkg auto update" for the bot to tell you about some other auto-update techniques
12:28<anotherman>hmm, ok, might not bother then

12:42<gsimmons>WangDang: You can. Ask our infobot about lenny sources.list (/msg dpkg lenny sources.list) to amend your sources, update to the last point release (5.0.10), then perform the upgrade to squeeze (/msg dpkg lenny->squeeze) then wheezy (/msg dpkg squeeze->wheezy), after reading the release notes for each release.

14:47<shylock>Why the hell is is so hard to create a desktop shortcut? I want to create a desktop shortcut to libreoffice, but can't seem to do it. If I drag the file from /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/oosplash to the desktop, clicking the desktop icon does nothing (nothing describable). I can launch libreoffice through the console, but I want a shortcut on my desktop.
14:47<shylock><shylock> Right clicking on the oosplash file in /usr/lib/libreoffice does not give me the option to create a link that I can then drag to my desktop. I really want to learn this linux thing, but is it really this hard to just make a simple shortcut?

15:31<cofirazak>there are a lot of people here...
15:31<seandewlin>cofizarak: there is no point in having more than 60 FPS, you won't see it.
15:32<_Tux_>I have a successful NFS mount, can browse the directories, but when I open a file all I get is garbage.
15:32<_Tux_>Garbage with the correct size, but random content. I see paths from the exporting server, so I suspect the problem lies there.
15:32<cofirazak>you're right. but just curious why on centos optirun glxgears gave me 600 - 700 fps, on archlinux 160-170 fps and on debian only 60 fps
15:33<cofirazak>seandewlin:
15:33<ncl>"Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate."
15:33<_Tux_>Wireshark reveals that there are actual READ requests.
15:34<_Tux_>If s/o can help -> please ping me.
15:34<seandewlin>Then just disable vsync.

15:40<babilen>Ah, you did. Sorry for the noise then :)
15:40<cofirazak>well think you are right, because i did vblank_mode=0 glxgears and vblank_mode=0 optirun glxgears and intel video card gave me 4000fps and nvidia only 2000 ))
15:41<seandewlin>Nice to hear that it has helped.
15:41<cofirazak>thanks)
15:42<cofirazak>well i don't plan to play on linux, all i need is world wind from nasa gov running on my laptop
15:42<babilen>A higher fps doesn't help if your display doesn't display it. The *only* thing that matters is that you have a fps that *always* exactly matches your display. You can either tinker with your display (and then match the fps to that) or be happy with what you have.
15:42<seandewlin>In case of gaming, vsync can seriously affect performance.
15:43<babilen>Anyway, this is getting quite off-topic :)

23:48<slbtc>can someone help me?
23:49<centrx>!ask
23:49<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See <smart questions><errors>.
23:49<centrx>slbtc, Slow night. Try #debian on Freenode
