02:47<themill>cousin_luigi: it's not really very easy to do at all. You can go from i386 to amd64 but it's a pretty dodgy process.
02:47<themill>dpkg, i386->amd64
02:47<dpkg>Converting an i386 installation into an amd64 installation in-place is quite difficult. It's much easier to reinstall the system with the new architecture -- ask me about <install debian>. If you've got good backups, plenty of time and are feeling lucky, you can try http://nanonanonano.net/linux/debian/crossgrading but really... good backups...

09:39<fanto666>I understand if there's 6.* version in squeese and 5* in lenny.
09:40<themill>You'd look at the changelog of the two packages if you wanted to know
09:40<fanto666>I'm looking there
09:41<themill>the convention is that after the release of lenny (version 5), base-files gets a "squeeze/sid" marker in /etc/debian_version and has a number that is between 5 and 6. Like 5.0
09:41<rostam>themill, Thank you for explanation. I have a very unique environment. I am using grml-debootstrap to duplicate the an instances of debian on one of my disk partition to another partition. That works. This is for an embedded environment. the apt-cache-ng and proxy will not work in the field if I need to use grml-debootstrap (no access to outside world) so I need to create my own repo.

15:41<somiaj>in either case, the default wheezy drivers do not support the 8000 series and you need to get the kernel/drivers from wheezy-backports. But you still haven't answered which drivers you prefer to use.

15:42<GNUwalrus>well you will have to enable wheezy-backports

15:42<tranjeeshan>I know how to enable Backports
15:43<tranjeeshan>but what would I be looking for?
15:43<tranjeeshan>I mean, what should I search for in Backports repo?
15:43<somiaj>you either need to install the linux kernel and firwmare-linux-nonfree from backports (this will give you the free radeon driver support) or install the fglrx drivers from backports
15:44<somiaj>though not sure if they work with the 3.14 kernel or not, there could stillb e an issue there
15:44<tranjeeshan>either one will do?
15:44<tranjeeshan>So what's the difference between these two?

19:23<pfsense_rookie>Hello, I have an issue with Debian 7.6 running on Samsung NP530U4B-S02. Whenever I disconnect the power cord the system experiences significant slowness, both visual(GUI/console) and processing wise(slower saving of files;programs more frequently become unresponsive) and all gets back to normal upon rebooting/reconnecting the power cord. This is installation is very recent (no more than 3 weeks) and I have not fiddled with it a lot mor
19:23<pfsense_rookie>e than installing AMDs proprietary drivers in order to make this laptop barely usable.

Only process writing to disk is mysqld, which writes about every 1-2 seconds. Reads
