04:13<bluesceada>i onced used it for a while because the nvidia drivers were incapable to rotate one of my screens and not the other (it could only rotate both or none ....)
04:13<bluesceada>now switched to an amd/ati eyefinity capable card :-)
04:14<bluesceada>for multi monitor and for opencl (speak: more workstation oriented stuff) they are better, even if nvidia might have better 3d gaming performance

04:15<bluesceada>wastedd: ah and there was some kind of multi monitor feature that nvidia removed again to be able to keep their microsoft windows certification
04:16<bluesceada>microsoft say something like "the product needs to work better in windows than anywhere else to be able to get certification"
04:16<bluesceada>as there was some multi monitor feature only in the linux driver, it had to be removed again for that

05:43<dpkg>Debian does not use a specific runlevel for graphical display managers by default. Just remove the DM package(s) with "aptitude remove xdm kdm wdm login.app gdm gdm3 pdm slim". "echo false >/etc/X11/default-display-manager" will also disable the DM, or just hit ctrl-alt-fN to get to a console. nodm is the name of a minimal/automatic display manager (http://www.enricozini.org/sw/nodm/).

15:43<TJ>if this doesn't turn up anything, my methodology has been to look at system resources approaching the crash. If it is as regular as your original post implies, maybe you can predict the next crash. If so, run top or htop before hand and watch your resource usage as the crash approaches. Otherwise you will need to use a watchdog and a good log stack to keep track of it remotely so when it happens you can refer back to those

17:03<WangDang>Hi, I'm stuck in my lenny->squeeze upgrade of an amd64 server I'm pulling out of storage. Minimal upgrade went well. Kernel upgrade failed to upgrade to squeeze because of dependancies. Someone here pointed me to lenny-backports where there was a backport of the squeeze kernel. Release notes say the next thing is to upgrade udev to sqz in order "to minimize the risk of other incompatibilities caused by using the old udev with a new kernel." Running apt-ge
17:03<WangDang>So I've a minimally upgraded system with a 2.6.32-bpo.5-amd64 kernel and 0.125-7+lenny3 udev. In a lapse due to working on this too late (I was tired) I rebooted despite the docs saying to wait until after the udev upgrade. All my drives and the network card were found and put in service correctly, so there doesn't seem to be any device nam

17:19<SkAzZ>TJ: Thanks for the reply, its not a software panic I am worried about but disk problems and configuration changes that may cause the system not to boot, it is in a DC with no KVM... The recovery USB it boots to has a debian installer with preseed + network-console so I can recover it via SSH when it does have an issue
17:20<SkAzZ>But I just need a reliable way to get it to boot to that USB when it does have an issue
