12:41<nyov>how do I pass pbuilder the right arch? the cow env was i386 but it still insists building amd64 packages in it
12:41<somiaj>nyov: I haven't messed with pbuilder so I'm unsure what youa re doing wrong. But yes the idea is you need to build in a i386 chroot
12:41<nyov>so, it's building wine64 but not wine32
12:41<somiaj>nyov: http://paste.debian.net/125595/
12:41<somiaj>nyov: those are the instructions I use to build wine
12:42<somiaj>again pbulider is supose to automate the chroot creating. I haven't done it so I wouldn't know what you are doing incorrectly to have it not build the correct chroot
12:42<somiaj>those instructions work fine for the 1.7 tree on wheezy (or jessie or sid) too
12:43<somiaj>they also build a single wine package and don't split it up into libaries and various packages like the offical debian versions. I do it that way because it is simpiler for me to matain

12:45<somiaj>nyov: What do you mean by that? Those instructions build wine and pack it into a single wine.deb file to be installed on any machine that can stasify the deps.
12:45<nyov>while doing dpkg-buildpackage would work okay here, too, the question is more how to make it work in pbuilder I guess.
12:46-!-Malandrinni [~Malandrin@vpn.noesis.pt] has quit []
12:46<somiaj>nyov: I'm just giving you what I use. Yes you can automate it. Have you tried the --architecture i386 flag when using pbuilder?
12:47<nyov>sorry, don't mean to be rude. thanks for the paste
12:48<nyov>I don't want those deps installed as they'd conflict with my patch-o-matic debian I'm running
12:48<somiaj>you mean the i386 build deps?
12:48<nyov>that too
12:48<somiaj>that is why you do this in a chroot, it leaves your system clean and you can just delete the chroot when you are done?
12:48<somiaj>what deps do you not want installed?
12:48<nyov>right

12:49<somiaj>The instructions I gave basically is the manual way to do it. I build the chroot, use it to build the package. Copy the package out of the chroot and install it, leaving my original system untouched. all pbuilder does is automate this process. As I said I have not used it that way as I don't mind manually doing it.

14:15<DNS>Maulkin: but if you download your isp can see the packages you download, i mean the names, with encryption they wont see it. and since we know how big surveillance is goin on i think encrypted mirrors are becoming more relevant.
14:15<centrx>nooryani84, usually, the more RAM you have, the more HD you have too, and a few GB is minimal cost for avoiding crashing some of your programs sometimes
14:16<nooryani84>My real question is... How much swap should i use for 8 GB if i wanted to use hibernate? 12 GB or 16?
14:16<Maulkin>I would normally suggest having swap, unless when you *do* happen to run out of ram you like your kernel randomly killing processes.
14:16<Brigo>nooryani84, no 8 GB is ok, the hibernate image is compresed.
14:17<nooryani84>Ok, so 8 GB is enough?
14:17<peter1138>I have no swap at the moment, and only 6GB.
14:17<Brigo>nooryani84, for hibernating yes.
14:17<peter1138>Sadly everything is getting bigger :(
14:17<nooryani84>In terms of SSD optimizations... Do I still have to manually enable trim and swappiness?
14:18<nooryani84>I was thinking that by now, in kernel 3.16 it would be automatic

I followed the instructions, added the repos, apt-get update && apt-get install owncloud-client, but the client version from the debian (wheezy) repos (1.5) was installed instead of the one from owncloud repos, which is the latest (1.6.3). What am I doing wrong? How can I tell apt-get to use the other repo? By the way, the owncloud repo is located under

19:14<devil>not worth it for speed

19:30<vortek>forget this

19:31<vortek>besides all the kernel has is generic support for 64 bit
19:31<vortek>no cpu specific
19:32<Ryccardo>it's there, you can choose between P4/core/core 2/whatever
19:32<jpleau>vortek: it's quite easy to start from an empty config these days. I think lsmod / lspci / lsusb you can tell which driver you actually are running right now
19:32<jpleau>after that it's just a matter to not screw up , for example forgetting to compile any filesystem :)
19:33<vortek>k
