14:23<bluenemo>hi guys. I'd like to benchmark my web application. my first thought was getting into apache benchmark and making its info graphical via gnu-plot, as I already used the tool a few years back. Is there another tool that you would recommend for that? just wanted to ask before I put time in it :)

17:51<benjamindees>I wonder if anyone can answer a question for me. In the Debian installer there's a step called "Configure the package manager." At first blush, this just seems to add network sources to apt. So, I'm not sure whether it's a bad thing that it fails during an offline install?

19:30<Brigo>and*
19:30<nyov>right, should go to d-next
19:30<somiaj>nyov: that is the mount avialable to it, you would have to run enough processes to use that all, and if it isn't using it that memeory can be used for other thigns.
19:30<somiaj>s/mount/amount/
19:31<somiaj>it is created by pam_systemd, maybe look there to limit it's max size
19:31<nyov>but if it's reserved for tmpfs, iirc it couldn't be used for caching any longer. am i wrong?
19:31<Brigo>nyov, i think yes, it can be used for caching
19:32<somiaj>afiak it can be used for caching or other uses
19:32<somiaj>so I don't think you'll get more preformance from limiting it. Though that still doesn't answer the question how do you limit it.

19:33<Brigo>it looks like you can do some tunning in /etc/default/tmpfs
19:34<nyov>okay, I'll have to take a closer look, it just felt like i have less ram available for disk caching since this.
19:34<Brigo>mount said tmpfs in my system has 5G, but i only have 4 :)
19:35<nyov>really. how did that happen :D
19:35<Brigo> total used free shared buffers cached
19:35<Brigo>Mem: 3,9G 3,7G 130M 27M 159M 1,9G
19:35<somiaj>I wonder if it could be considered a wishlist bug to include variables for /run/user/uid tmpfs sizes, does setting the default TMPFS_SIZE change what it uses at all or is systemd igroing that.
19:36<somiaj>but it apepars there is no default setting for that size in /etc/default/tmpfs at the moemnt
19:36<Brigo>in my system it only uses 397M
19:36<nyov>it might use that. i haven't changed it from the default. will have to check on another boot
19:38<Brigo>the config file is almost empty: /usr/share/pam-configs/systemd
