02:53<Psy-Q>i can't quite figure out how kerning is broken in jessie
02:53<Psy-Q>in inkscape it looks like crap, in konsole glyphs are cut off underneath their baseline, but in some other things (KDE window titles), it works

03:04<twb>Psy-Q: inkscape menus and stuff, or in the text objects you're making?
03:04<twb>cos in the latter case inkscape (can) do its own kerning
03:04<twb>Oops, I misread

03:08<hwgasdfasdf>is there a reason the insatller doesn't recognize disks connected to a intel ICH6 family IDE controller?
03:09-!-fooctrl [] has joined #debian
03:10<twb>hwgasdfasdf: is ICH6 new? Debian 7's installer runs 3.2 and might not support new chipsets.
03:10<hwgasdfasdf>no, old
03:10<hwgasdfasdf>like p4 old
03:10<twb>Is it one of the ones that has IDE/SATA/Hybrid modes in the BIOS?
03:10-!-Gromit [~jpalic@] has joined #debian
03:11<hwgasdfasdf>maybe, I did just disable the sata in the bios
03:11<twb>IIRC early sata chipsets couldn't do both sata and ide at once without yukkiness
03:12<hwgasdfasdf>pxe booting siduction nox on the same box the disk detects fine
03:12<hwgasdfasdf>and that's a debian variant
03:14<hwgasdfasdf>well siduction it is I guess
03:14<hwgasdfasdf>yet another problem with the debian installer
03:14<hwgasdfasdf>seems typical lately

03:46<Grenville>hello all, I'm disabled and can't hold down a mouse button and move the mouse (or hold down a button and use my mouse pad). I'd like to be able to hold down my left button for a few seconds and have it lock the left button. From internet searches and man pages I think that I need to configure evdev by adding 'option "D an DragLockButtons" "L1 B2"' to an xorg.conf file in an input section that identifies "evdev pointer catchall". Is that
03:46<Grenville> right? and where do I save the config file? Can I just modify /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf?

07:42<realmurf>Hi all, I've a question about pbuilder/cowbuilder. If I use these on a suffciently new machine, some builds may or may not query the underlying CPU capabilities and the resulting build may contain opcodes which may not be supported on all target platforms. If all packages used dh, is the use of DEB_CFLAGS_PREPEND (and CPP) with -noavx, ....suffiecient to ensure that any package will not contain those advanced opcodes?

07:46<petn-randall>realmurf: All packages in Debian should make sure that nothing outside of the source package defines the build behaviour. That means that the build shouldn't change depending on the CPU capabilities. That's also why depending on sources that get pulled over the network during build are a big no.
07:47<realmurf>petn-randall: ok, that's good to know. Is this part of the Debian policy somewhere?

15:39<somiaj>rryoumaa: note if you wanted a gpt partition and to boot in legacy mode you need to do additional work to the partition to ensure a mbr compadability partition. I am unsure how well the installer can deal with setting this up to get grub to boot as I have not done it
15:40<rryoumaa>will gdisk figure that out?
15:40-!-ki7mt_ [~ki7mt@] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
15:40<somiaj>rryoumaa: personally I would just go with the mbr partition for a legacy boot. Do you ave any reason you need gpt, an ssd doesn't sound like it would have either parition number issues or partition size issues.
15:40<somiaj>yea the installer sets it up correctly depending on which mode it boots in
15:40<somiaj>rryoumaa: honestly, I have no experiencing putting a mbr compdability partition in a gpt partition table. You may have to look into this if you really wanted a gpt partition table
15:41<rryoumaa>i meant is it an option to use gdisk (will it figure out how to set up the mbr part?) and then run the installer

22:10<jeff_>@foffa when you are going to logout or restart your computer you will have to click on your name and click on the gear, it will show you defual, gnome3 and gnome classi. click on gnome classic
22:11<jeff_>@foffa you can run any Desktop Environment, like me I am running Cinnamon
22:11<foffa>jeff_, gnome classic top bar looks kinda messy - the battery status symbol and the volume symbol are too big, see photo
22:12<birch>mullein, nope doesn't work either. i'll find another file source. thanks!
