I was installing bumblebee, a first error messed-up the filesystem which I was able to recover running "fsk" in maintenance mode and now I have this one...

06:07<jm_>RAM is hard to diagnose, but memtest86 may detect issues (not veryu reliable test in my experience), for disk it's easy if it's a regular disk -- badblocks
06:07<ptalbot>it's a SSD
06:08<jm_>then I am not sure, but still badblocks (RO, default) test should pass
06:08<ptalbot>is badblocks a program?
06:08<enyc>ptalbot: yes, part of e2fsprogs, but not related directly to ext2/3/4 at all
06:08<jm_>yes, part of e2fsprogs
06:09<jm_>so try booting from a rescue medium (I recommend grml) and inspect things
06:09<jm_>(It has memtest86 on it too IIRC)
06:09<enyc>ptalbot: !WARNING! using -w (or -n) on badblocks will write to data on device tested, -w doesn't try to restore it at all ....

13:25<grove>I've asked about this before, wihout any luck, ut it annoys me quite a lot so I'll try again. On this machine (which runs wheezy) `apt-get upgrade` thinks there's nothing todo, that's fine, but `apt-get dist-upgrade` wants to install three packages (systemd and two dependencies) without wanting to remove anything? What is that about? And how do I tell it that I don't wany systemd installed? Output of `apt-get update`, `apt-get upgrade`, `apt-get ...
13:25<grove>... dist-upgrade`, `apt-cache policy` for each of the three package and without arguments, and `aptitude why` for each of the three packages is at http://paste.debian.net/132847/

17:16<svp>Hi. I messed up badly today: I needed python2.7 on a server running debian squeeze. Because I'm a retard I added testing sources to apt, but there we're some dependencies that could not be resolved using neither apt-get or aptitude. So then I was stuck somewhere between squeeze and testing, and I don't know what to do. Now I would just like to move to Wheezy. Any way I can do this?

22:16<martingale>my experience has been that happens if your network card's drivers aren't supported in wheezy

22:18<martingale>there are two options i would recommend
22:18-!-mode/#debian [+l 685] by debhelper

22:19<martingale>for instance, my 1440p monitors wouldn't run at full resolution in wheezy
22:19<cappy>ironically I had manjaro before wheezy but they weren't supported there either...
22:19<martingale>upgrading to jessie and making no other changes fixed the problem
22:19<cappy>is that saying something about my wifi adapter?
22:20<martingale>well manjaro is arch based....
22:20<cappy>ik
22:21<martingale>i would say that the most likely problem is that you don't have the driver loaded
22:21<martingale>the other suggestion i have is (2) look for a backport of the driver you want to wheezy
22:24<martingale>Also, as a general rule of thumb, especially if you are new to linux/debian, you should get all of your software from the official debian repositories.
22:24<cappy>will look through backports and if I have no luck with change over to jessie

23:30<Cylus>I'm having an issue with file alphabetizing in file managers. digits are being treated as special, so files are being arranged incorrectly. For example, if three files are named "22", "7a", and "77", they appear in this order: "7a", "22", "77". This makes no sense, as the two files starting with the same character should be consecutive once organized. This issue appears in multiple file manages, including Thunar and whatever the GNOME defaul file man
23:30<Cylus>ager is, leading me to believe that the issue isn't in the file managers themselves, but rather something deeper in the system. Does anyone know how to fix this?

23:35<shadow>if that's how GNOME wants it, probably not going to get much traction to change the default behaviour. You may however find a hidden setting, another way of doing this, or the option to use or create an extension that allows a different behaviour

23:48<shadow>Cylus: the way to find out is nuke nautilus, export that variable in a terminal, and start nautilus
23:48<shadow>if it doesn't work like you want then it's moot point.
23:50<Cylus>Nautilus isn't installed, and "killall thunar" doesn't seem to find any Thunar processes, despite the fact that I have Thunar windows open. I tried that export and restart thing from the command line, though I need to figure out what process "thunar" calls, because it opens a window then exits (the window remains open, but there are still no "thunar" processes).
