01:10<jm_>apps like xbmc can be controlled with a remote provided your IR sensor exists and is supported (same goes for the remote)
01:11<jm_>as for powering it on - there are some HTPC cases that can do that, but pretty rare, although putting it to sleep and then waking it up should be a simpler and having better chance of working

01:12<hendry>how do I install/upgrade to packages in the backports repo?
01:12<jm_>!backports
01:12<dpkg>A backport is a package from a newer Debian branch, compiled from source for an older branch to avoid dependency and <ABI> complications. http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/reference/ch02.en.html (2.7.4 and 2.7.10), http://backports.debian.org/ . Ask me about <debian-backports> and <backport caveat>. See also <simple sid backport>.

01:13<sleser>i wont be using xbmc ill be using debian then brouser
01:14<sleser>remote just to pute laptop on
01:14<sleser>not to walk to the station .
01:14<jm_>you don't need to use -t wheezy-backports with upgrade

08:03<Grenville>hey all, I've come looking for help, although I think what I actually need is a pointer to the right place to look for help. In my futile attempts to understand something about networking I thought I'd try to use and configure rtorrent to do my totally above board torrent downloading. It seems to be working, but it is unable to connect to any UDP trackers (I'd like to know what they are, please). My searching of the web suggested that I needed to set u
08:03<Grenville>p port forwarding on my router for rtorrent. I think I did that, mapping the port rtorrent uses to the same port in the router (?) and then assigning my comuter's ip address to that rule. No dice. Any suggestions, including where to ask for help?
08:03<ArtooDetoo>and the html, php files are on a webserver or on your local pc?
08:04<jm_>Grenville: we can't help with your router if it's not running debian - port forwarding is needed there so that other peers can conenct to you not so that you can connect to trackers
08:04<bruno_>with synaptic i think i have installed the right programs
