00:12<xevious>I'm building a package using cowbuilder-dist that needs to retrieve some components via git/ssh during the rules file. I have a hook that adds SSH keys to /root/.ssh/ in the pbuilder chroot. It's a 'D' script, and I've also symlinked it to the same name starting with 'F' so I can try it by logging into the dist. When I log in, it works.
00:12<xevious>When I try to build a package, it fails.
00:13<xevious>I've added a test ssh (verbose) command at the beginning of the rules file, and it says: debug1: could not open key file '/root/.ssh/id_rsa': Permission denied
00:14<xevious>When I list the file, it's owned by root with permissions set to 0600.
00:14<xevious>If I try to cat the file during rules, it throws a permission denied error.
00:14<xevious>ssh does not allow key files to have any permission other than 0600.

00:15<xevious>I added 'whoami' and 'groups' to the rules file and they output 'root' and 'root packager', respectively.
00:15<xevious>(packager is the user I'm running cowbuilder-dist as)

00:16<suicidebait>yea, i just located a whore trying to live forever by killing everyone.
00:17<xevious>So, the build process appears to be running as root, but is unable to read a file owned by root with rw permissions only for root...

03:42<jm_>confrey: so it finds the file but fails with the err = -110,len = 448, size = 4096 error - to me this looks like a driver bug, i.e. same as assuming write(2) would always write "count" bytes, it seems the driver should handle this case, but it doesn't - maybe best to contact lkml/driver authors (obviously not being a kernel developer I might be wrong, but based on function description and other usage of it, this driver is missing a check)

03:46<jm_>confrey: yes, or lkml, you could also submit a bug in debian's bts
03:49<jm_>you could simply use my suggestion - the driver is calling usb_bulk_msg() but fails to take the output parameter actual_length into account (i.e. the ammount written could well be less than requested)

06:47<user_>I think I have installed my system with 32bit kernel + software. In case I want to convert to 64bit, should I use a different debian livecd?
06:47<user_>I mean , start everything from scratch
06:48-!-thunderrd [~thunderrd@] has joined #debian
06:48<jm_>it's best to reinstall yes, use amd64 CD - alternatively, install a 64bit kernel and keep userspace 32bit
06:51<user_>jm_, I am not sure if there is any advantage migrating to you believe it worth to try?
06:52<jm_>user_: I have converted my 32bit install to 64bit, but I would stick to 32bit + 64bit kernel if I would do it again (it's possible to use some 64bit apps too, but depending on your choice it might clash with 32bit stuff)
06:53<user_>you mean, you faced to issues after converting to 64bit?
06:54<jm_>the only issue was flash crap which is horrible on 64bit so I now have 32bit chroot for that which sort of defeats the purpose, everything else I didn't even notice any difference
06:55-!-frederick [] has joined #debian
06:55<jm_>of course now that there's chromium with pepper flash plugin I would not need to bother with chroot and I will probably get rid of it sometime in the future
06:55<jm_>but back then that was not possible
06:56<jm_>my motivation for upgrading to 64bit was to run VM-s in virtualbox, assuming i'd need them to use a lot of memory but it turns out 32bit would handle it just fine
06:57-!-darokthar [~darokthar@VPNPOOL01-0108.UNI-MUENSTER.DE] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
06:59<user_>thanx for the info. I am not sure what to do. I don't want to waste my time in administrative tasks for no real advantage. I also use some virtualization software (GNS3/qemu)
06:59<jm_>if you have no need for processes that need a lot of memory (>3G) then using 32bit release + 64bit kernel (or just regular 32bit kernel) shall do fine

15:42<petn-randall>notAnonymous_: Oh wait. 'apt-get upgrade' should suffice. 'dist-upgrade' will offer you to remove packages if that's needed to fulfil the dependencies. 'upgrade' doesn't, and thus is safer. If you're upgrading from stable to stable, both have the same effect.

20:11<Skullclown>so if I can somehow figure out how to get rid of these blocking errors I can't seem to fix, I might have a possibility of fixing this.
20:12<Skullclown>and I'd like to get to bed, as it's past 2am. so if you have any tips, they're more than welcome.
20:12<sge>Either is fine. Let's say stable for now. I just want apt-get to be working again. Right now after I apt-get I get unmet dependencies basically all depending on libc6 (= 2.19-13) but 2.13-38+rpi2+deb7u3 is to be isntalled
20:12<Marillion>Skullclown: it is easier you make a backup of /etc and installing new
20:12<Skullclown>Marillion: that's just not possible right now
20:13<TobiX>sge: So you tried to crossgrade Raspian to Debian?

20:13<sge>and when I try a sudo apt-get install -f, I get the same unmet dependencies of libc-dev-bin etc, relying on libc6 and glibc-2.19-1 but it's not installable
20:13<Skullclown>sge: I have those same blocking issues, except because of a different reason.
20:14<Skullclown>Marillion: lots of reasons, really. But would they actually matter?
20:14<maxxe>kalle anka ligan. dårhus
20:14<TobiX>sge: Because 2.13-38+rpi2+deb7u3 is not a Debian version at all...
20:16<Marillion>Skullclown: no, but i think it is NOT a productive system, because you running not stable, thats why i'm asking why
20:16<Skullclown>Marillion: it WAS running stable, until every single package got upgraded to testing because of an accidental upgrade.
20:17<Skullclown>That's exactly why I'm trying to fix every single package.
20:17<sge>(numbers should be right, but currently I'm looking at a very low resolution raspberry pi output over a composite video out and retyping, not copy paste). I'm pretty sure when I ruined apt-get I change sources.list from raspbian to official debian repositories
