08:13<TeslasMHD>Hi, I have an USB 3.0 external hard drive. Read rates are fine (145/MB/s) but write speed is slow, only 10MB/s. Is this a kernel/driver bug? Has anybody experienced the same?
08:14<TeslasMHD>I'm using Debian/testing.

08:16<TeslasMHD>berto: cat verylargefile > /dev/null and watching gkrellm.
08:17<jm_>/dev/null to test disk speed?
08:17<TeslasMHD>Read speed.
08:17<jm_>(write disk speed that is)
08:17<berto>TeslasMHD: try something like fio

08:18<berto>it would be best if you could try it against a raw partition (without data!!)
08:18<berto>but I don't know if you have free space in your HD
08:18<TeslasMHD>No free disk speed.
08:18<jm_>the few times I tried using usb 3.0 disk for longer time in linux it ended in usb errors so I gave up and used it in 2.0 slot - will try 3.0 again with newer kernel these days(this means I have no numbers to compare with you)
08:18<TeslasMHD>Ehr, disk space.
08:18<berto>if not a regular file should be fine I guess
08:18<berto>there was a bug with usb 3.0 in linux some months ago
08:18<berto>but it got fixed
08:19<berto>and I think it didn't just slow things down, so it's probably not that one
