03:40<Grenville>hello all, I'm trying to set up my machine to automatically mount my windows partition when I login, and not when any other user logins. I couldn't work out how to use fstab to do that. I wrote a script that mounts the thing. I put it in my .bashrc file. This works, but does mean that it pointlessly executes every time I open a new terminal window. My research suggests that putting the script in /etc/profile might be bet
03:40<Grenville>ter. But would that work with a graphical login, and if so how do I set-up so that only I execute the script. Thanks.
03:41-!-cyd [~cyd@ipbcc140f2.dynamic.kabel-deutschland.de] has joined #debian
03:41<jm_>you could use pam_mount for this too (see the libpam-mount package)
03:42<Grenville>jm, thanks. I'll investigate

03:47<jm_>you can also use ~/.bash_profile so it's not run for every shell (and not in /etc/profile so other users get it too) and adding a test to not run it if it's already mounted is trivial

03:55<Grenville>jm_, that makes sense, thanks. i'm learning slowly.
03:56<jm_>no problem
03:56<jm_>note that to mount it as user you will need a fstab entry

05:44<gsimmons>R4spS3c: You're likely experiencing the effects of a suspend to RAM regression which was part of the recent point release.
05:44<gsimmons>dpkg: 7.8 suspend
05:44<dpkg>A regression in Linux 3.2.65 (part of the Debian <7.8> point release) may result in some systems failing to resume after suspending to RAM, by rebooting instead (Debian bug #774436). Fixed packages will be introduced as part of a <security> update soon. http://womble.decadent.org.uk/blog/linux-suspendresume-regression-in-debian-78.html

07:32<babilen>stevenm: Select only those packages you really need. Otherwise build a graph of all packages with edges for each dependency to another packages on the list. Sort that list by number of outgoing edges and select packages from that list (in order!) until the selected packages and the "pulled in" ones constitute the complete list
07:33<stevenm>babilen, i think I'm partially understanding you - i'm using debtree and xdot, does that help?

07:34<babilen>stevenm: I guess it would, I am not aware of an algorithm that would automatically come up with this "minimal set", but am sure that something like that exists. The above is simply a first step in the dark.

14:54<mib_12345>Hi, Question: Is there an ( easy to use ) GUI application that works on Debian that can allow me to connect to a VPN ( OpenVPN, L2TP or IPsec ) and tell the OS to route all network traffing through it?
14:55<dondelelcaro>mib_12345: you can use openvpn, but it's not a gui application. It's pretty easy to configure, though.

15:22<dpkg>You can install Debian from a USB stick/thumbdrive/pen drive/key on x86 systems, as long as your system's BIOS can boot from USB. Details are in the Installation Guide, see http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/ch04s03 and ask me about <install debian> for hybrid CD/DVD images. Use http://sf.net/projects/win32diskimager/ to write images from Windows. For BIOSes not capable of USB boot, ask me about <plop>.

There is an option in bios, something like "bios optimized for windows8" and I changed it to the second option "other OS" but nothing changes. I have 3 machines more (dell, acer and thinkpad), and in all of them I only run Debian and I have no issues at all. Probably the Lenovo is really optimized only for W8.

23:32<twb>disconnected from all other computers
23:33<awal>weeks ago I got a trojan after plugin my usb key in a university computer for print some university class's. i just printed, nocopied and no sent nothing. all my pdf, word files (nothing personal) were dammaged. I was able to recuperate all these files with testdisk then formated the usb key. ofcourse i never use usb keys with personal info in public computers; so my question is just about recuperate things like audio, video, studies
23:33<awal>stuff's...
23:34<rryoumaa>awal: did it infect your computer?
23:34<rryoumaa>oh, trojan
23:34<rryoumaa>so you ran a program then
23:34<awal>no,
23:35<awal>its a windows trojan, so i dont think its dangerous under a linux system
23:38<twb>So you want to protect not only your own computer, but also avoid propagating malware between library computers
23:40<rryoumaa>asking on #security
23:41<awal>I think that many gnu/linux users propagate malware in windows/mac world but sometimes i check the files with clamav before send them to friend with windows systems.

23:44<twb>No idea. I don't really interact with windows users.
23:44<awal>the X malware have to be executable for damage a gnu/linux system; having accidently an X windows or mac malware will not harm the base system bcuz of permissions, i think so
