01:15<kingsley>Why would the "apt-cache show" and "dpkg" commands report different architectures for the package named "dpkg"?

01:16<kingsley>"dpkg -l " says dpkg'
01:16<kingsley>"dpkg -l " says dpkg's architecture is "i386".

01:19<sedulous>Can I filter :i386 packages in aptitude? Most of the time I don't need to see them and they're needlessly complicating searches

01:20<kingsley>sedulous: Do you want aptitude to ignore :i386 packages, or consider only :i386 ?
01:20<sedulous>kingsley: I'd like to ignore them, i.e. not see them while browsing or searching the repository
01:21<sedulous>It's not a real problem but it would be a convenient feature
01:22<jm_>tried using !~rforeign?
01:23<sedulous>jm_: that works, thanks. i could use that in every search
01:23<jm_>no problem
01:24<sedulous>the search dialog could be extended with a second field that remembers its contents

05:56<Tiger>hi. i've installed a minimal system from the 7.2.0 netinst cd, and i'm having trouble getting internet connection. dhclient runs automatically, and i can ping the router 192.168.1.1. on a windows pc in this lan, one must enter a user (telephone number) and password to get internet. can i somehow tell dhclient to use this? (i've skimmed the manpages, but i'm still clueless)

16:21<gaffa>No, the use case is what asklepian has. He does a lot of installs using a huge flash drive (doesn't need to be that big), that has lots of room for caching the packages that are downloaded during the install. The installer downloads packages through apt-cacher-ng, which stores them on the flash drive. That way the next time when he does an install, most packages are already present locally and don't need to be fetched online. If you'd like to, the
16:21<gaffa>installed system could also choose to save downloaded packages to the flash drive, but that's outside the scope of what I was thinking about.

20:47<twb> error creating directory `./usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/blinken': No such file or directory
20:47<twb>I think that's happening because --path-exclude '/usr/share/doc/*' --path-include '/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/blinken/*' does not implicitly create the intermediary directories.
20:48<twb>So I gotta specify them all explicitly :-/
