01:21<shane907>ok, the plot thickens. adding "dig anyhostname" to the init.d script before start-stop-daemon allows subsequent commands to resolve hostnames (including a simple ping in the init.d script and nginx via start-stop-daemon). however, just pinging a hostname or sleeping for 10 seconds doesn't allow subsequent hostname resolution. seems like the dig command is initializing dns somehow.
01:26<awal>I install and uninstall usually many packages and metapackages for try and discover and learn about debian and gnu/linux. If nothing suggested by apt/aptitude -f install can one be sure that the system is not broken and there are no dependencies issues?

01:41<awal>somiaj: yeah, thats my conviction; and thanks for the aptitude sugegstion. I asked that because when I run debrophan (orphaner allpacks + libs) deborphan suggest remove apt-listbugs, apt-rdepends, apt-listchanges, chkrootkit, dev-scripts and more packages I use and I need. I dont understand why deborphan suggest remove half of my debian system
01:42<awal>apt/aptitude -f install runs smoothly. just deborpjahn confusing

01:44<banksy>somiaj: I just ran "sudo -f apt-get install" on my laptop out of interest. It returns a whole bunch of xfce4 packages along with some others that don't have a dependency. I think I may have removed a meta package that I shouldn't have. Is there any way to figure out what I've done?

01:49<awal>orphaner invokes apt-get. so it should run smoothly if apt-get -f install runs smooth too. probably i have to remove deborphan :)
01:51<awal>banksy: many of that packs are installed by the meta-pack 'xfce4-goodies'. apt-get autoremove should solve your situation
01:52<banksy>thanks awal :)
01:54<awal>banksy: probably you have to run apt-get autoremove after removing or purging X pack if you will not reinstall that purged/removed pack
01:54<awal>check man apt-get

02:30<awal>"apt-get check/-f install" and "aptitude -f install" doesn't suggest nothing, "aptitude search ~b" doesn't suggest nothing too, but "aptitude search '~c'" displays a list of partially uninstalled packages (libs and recommends of packs i purged yesterday). 06:00<KingOfDos>is there some way to verify it isn't throwing everything to the micro-hdmi output, instead of my tft? i haven't a cable to verify the hardware-aspect.
06:01<KingOfDos>grub runs, i'm getting a few messages. then when it should switch to the "tty login screen" it switches to blank. i guess.
06:02<KingOfDos>in kernel 3.2 the video-output on my tft works, but has no wifi support.

18:04<prashant>thanks ompaul
18:04<ompaul>prashant: and this is not typical a development channel it is typically a system admin debian specific channel so we'll help you install parts or all of debian
18:04<prashant>sorry did not know
18:04<ompaul>well some parts don't like others but that is ... well that's that
18:04<prashant>just started using rirc.
18:05<ompaul>!ask
18:05<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See <smart questions><errors>.
