02:14<blackslide>Uh.. anyone know how to make acpi work properly? My battery status is non-logical:
02:14-!-corey84_ [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
02:14<blackslide>when psu is removed, the battery designed capacity
02:14<blackslide>and last full capacity drop
02:14<blackslide>so at this rate acpi will happily report 0 WAh in a matter of days
02:15-!-tobi [] has joined #debian
02:15<blackslide>I understand that an old battery might not charge at all. But acpi has "charging at zero rate" for that. And designed full capacity rating should not be altered by what the charge is atm
02:17<blackslide>also last full capacity changes identical to the designed capacity. The only thing that seems correct, is designed min voltage 108000 and current voltage, that increases slightly every time the capacity drops
02:18-!-Kow [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
02:19-!-Kow [] has joined #debian
02:19<blackslide>If I understand correctly, the designed full capacity should be alot bigger, also the battery being at ~380WAh should be near 5% or even less

06:28<domovoy> i'm trying to build a preconfigure/modified kernel ( provided by the manufacturer of the product (Western Digital Sharespace, uses a Marvell board based on their 88F5281 chip). I'm on debian sid i386, built and installed cross-gcc-4.9-armel.I run "make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabi- uImage", and it fails with errors like "selected processor does not support ARM mode `fmrrd r0,r1,d0'". 07:47<SynrGy>domovoy: debian etch released with a 2.4 kernel, and etch-and-a-half had 2.6.24. etch released in 2007 and reached EOL in 2010. so you're apparently trying to build a several-years-old kernel against current sid. sounds like something that cannot be reasonably expected to succeed, which is why i ask what you're trying to solve.

07:57<SynrGy>good luck
07:57<SynrGy>Linnak: it goes through a first couple of steps
07:58<SynrGy>Linnak: first, there's an ITP bug filed against the wnpp pseudopackage. then the debian developers get to weigh in on whether they think it will be an asset to add it to debian or not
07:58<SynrGy>Linnak: the ITP bug gets copied to the mailing list for that review process. followups go to the bug itself.
07:59<SynrGy>Linnak: John programmer must have upload rights (i.e. be a Debian Developer) or else have the package sponsored by someone with upload rights. the package is uploaded when ready. the next step is a manual review process performed by the ftpmaster team to make sure it meets debian's standards for entry into the archive.

21:23<martingale>what do you mean messing up?
21:24<awal>Chnanku: are you trying to install debian alongside another OS?

21:28<jinn>why u need windows 7 it is shit
21:29<Chanku>Because I'm swapping from Windows 7
21:29<sney>ah, opinions
21:29<jinn>linux (systems) is best
21:29<Chanku>plus I still need it for a few games...
21:29<jinn>lol games XD
21:29<sney>Chanku: how much ram do you have? if it's 4GB or more you can safely skip swap, unless you plan on using hibernate
21:29<martingale>Chanku, you should be able to specify that the partition be used for swap
21:29<jinn>lol u can play on linuc
21:30<Chanku>I have 4GB...albeit it's DDR2, but still 4GB...
21:30<martingale>this is different from setting it''s mount point to none
21:30<jinn>ddr2 XDDDDDDDDD
21:30<jinn>u are old human ? XD
21:30<jinn>old pc?
21:30<Chanku>Pretty Much
21:30<jinn>aaa okay

21:31<sney>Chanku: yeah, swap is optional with 4GB
21:31<jinn>u ca install one widows 7 and one depian
21:31<sney>there may be another issue though
21:31<Chanku>I'm trying to use the 50GB one.
21:31<Chanku>another issue?
21:31<jinn>hmmm why my swap is 7 gb XD
21:31<jinn>now i use laptip
21:31<sney>well, usually mkswap doesn't fail
21:32<jinn>hmmm i used automatic because i fucking noob XD
21:32<Chanku>That's what I'm trying to use...
21:32<awal>Chanku: are you installing wheezy or jessie?
21:33<awal>ok. bcuz if it were jessie, installer may be buggy ...ok, forget it
21:33<jinn>if u want play why u not install jessie ?
21:33<Chanku>I have my reasons for not using jessie
21:33<sney>jinn: because people new to debian should probably not be using pre-release software. maybe later, after they're used to it and can handle something breaking
21:34<awal>jinn: let people help that guy instead of giving opinions :)
21:34<martingale>Even if you decide to install jessie, the recommended method of doing so is to install wheezy and then updating your sources.list to jessie sources
21:34<Chanku>Although I probably won't be installing jessie
21:34<themill>the jessie rc1 installer should work just fine
21:34<martingale>"The testing installer is more for testing the installer than for installing testing"
21:35<sney>jinn: if you have a support question, ask it in the channel. if you want to ramble opinions, go in #debian-offtopic. Don't private message people without asking.
21:35<themill>martingale: fyi, I wrote that.
21:35<Chanku>also keep in mind that I am using the Live CD..
21:35<sney>Chanku: ah. the live installer is a little oddball. try with the standard one from

21:36<Chanku>I only have one USB...

21:37<sney>yeah. the live installer isn't impossible but you'll get better support if you use the regular one. it should work without issue as long as your hardware is fine.

21:54<sney>you can make a .desktop file, it's a couple lines of text then put it in /usr/share/applications.
21:55<vegeta315>ok so i know the command i need to start the aterm transparent

22:50<aidalgol>Why is linux-patch-3.2-rt.patch, and only this patch, installed as a separate file by linux-source-3.2, rather than being pre-applied to the tarball?
