03:46<Guest446>Apparently /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf was already set to MODULES=most. However, my HDD isn't being seen. I can boot to a finnix CD just fine, so I imagine I'm just missing a kernel module or something. Any tips figuring out what I'm missing{? I'm sure ti's trivial...
03:47<jm_>Guest446: remove quiet from the kernel parameters and see what it says
03:49<Guest446>jm_: I never have quiet in there in the first place. That's how I knew it wasn't finding the VG (sys). From busybox, I checked to see if anything was in /dev/, but I found no disks.

09:34<patachu>dumb question : how do i install a driver on debian?
09:34<patachu>i have downloaded here the driver for an usb wlan device.
09:34<lostatwork>depends on what it is for
09:35<patachu>i asked someone, who <<knows>>, everything about linux; he told me "make install"
09:35<patachu>"but there's no such thing" indeed
09:36<patachu>there's "makefile"
09:36<patachu>which might not be like setup.exe or install.bin
09:37<patachu>no docs
09:37<oldlaptop>Could you explain more specifically?
09:37<musca>no device vendor & model?
09:37<loopzle>did you run "make install" and it told you that "install" isn't an option?
09:37<oldlaptop>a Makefile (usually capitalized) is a set of instructions for the tool 'make'

09:38<musca>yes, good you didn't tell us.

19:18<retrospectacus>!unmarkauto
19:18<dpkg>Is apt trying to remove packages that it thinks were automatically installed? This happens when you "aptitude install gnome" and then later remove bits of it causing the gnome meta-package to be uninstalled and then all its dependencies. Fix this by running "aptitude unmarkauto packagename" on strategically chosen packages, or reinstall the <metapackage> (apt-get also has unmarkauto from squeeze onwards).

21:51<mythos>ok, you don't know what you are doing or what you are supposed to do
21:51<sleser>ill loop mount it after 1st i need to make the img
21:51<sleser>yeh i know wha tim supose to do im supose to create a flopy img file then mount that then continue instaling the app
21:52<mythos>sooo... a floppy img file has a fixed length and a fs in it
21:52<sleser>yeh
21:52<mythos>then create a img like that
21:53<sleser>show me a link where i can read
21:53<mythos>truncate -S size file. mkfs.vfat file. mount -t vfat -o loop file mountpoint. cp file into image
21:54<mythos>may create a partition first before runnint mkfs (with fdisk)
21:54<sleser>without partition wont work ?
21:55<sleser>like just to create a img file with content on disk . then mounting that img loop with furius iso ?
21:56<mythos>i don't really understand your last sentence
21:57<sleser>is it posible to make an img file from files located in a directory ?
21:57<sney>life with sleser haha
21:57<sleser>because i dont realy need to create a partition
21:57<mythos>sleser, it depends on what application is using that image
21:57<sleser>oh well its a litle complicated
21:57<sney>you can make filesystems on files just like on partitions or block devices. and you can mount them with -o loop.
21:58<sney>but you can't just dd a folder worth of files into an image. dd doesn't know what to do with that.
21:58<mythos>and if it needs a valid partitiontable or not
