02:58<jm_>are you using debian?
02:58<AlissaSquared>Yes.
02:58<jm_>which version?
02:58<AlissaSquared>I think squeeze
02:59<jm_>then inspect your iptables rules - iptables -L
02:59<AlissaSquared>I uninstalled iptables at request of another channel.
03:00<AlissaSquared>Purged, rather.
03:00<jm_>well install it back if you think firewall is the issue
03:02<AlissaSquared>I installed iptables but the only command I have is "iptables-xml"

03:02<jm_>what does dpkg -s iptables show for version?
03:03<jm_>and you need to run it as root ...
03:03<AlissaSquared>That makes more sense. I'll pastebin the output
03:04<AlissaSquared>... Is there a way to pastebin? pastebinit uses an outdated version of the Pastebin API
03:05<jm_>ask dpkg aobut nopaste or wgetpaste

19:45<somiaj>Chanku: well I have two things you can try. But I think trying the 3.16 kernel from wheezy-backporst would be my first suggestion. I have found some bug reports where people say it was fixed in later kernels. Unsure if this will fix your issue, but the bugs were similar.
19:45<somiaj>The other is blacklist the libata pata module and use the old moudules (though this may require building a custom kernel)
19:46<Chanku>what would be the easiest solution
19:46<Chanku>and has the least chance of accidentally bricking my install...

21:20<Chanku>Then why was it being detected before?
21:22<awal>somiaj: probably it's a hardware issueyeah, but he said he booted twice with that install cd, so I really don't know
21:22<somiaj>Chanku: could be it is in the process of going bad, I was going to purse your dmesg see if I saw anything else that poped out.
21:22<somiaj>Chanku: you can always boot up off the old kernel and see if that still detects it. If so could be you just need to load the correct module. But it is hard for me to debug without having the hardware in my position. :/
21:23<pwlandoll>@ somiaj I can't say for certain that I used it back in windows/my old linux mint install, but I just had the tower open today and it looked like it'd been hooked up. I get that little static sound when I plug in headphones, and in alsamixer it looks like it has an option for the front jack. I'm using alsa, but I don't know for sure if pulseaudio is running on top of that. It'd probably be whatever is th
21:23<pwlandoll>e default with a debian install
21:25<somiaj>pwlandoll: using pulseaudio or just alsa? Not sure if gnome has any fancy tool to configure the default sound card device
21:25<awal>Chanku: have you tried mount another iso cd? debian cd for example
21:25<Chanku>I noticed these lines: [ 0.679520] ata1: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x1018 ctl 0x1024 bmdma 0x1000 irq 17
21:25<Chanku>[ 0.679523] ata2: DUMMY
21:26<somiaj>Chanku: it is just ata1 you are intersted in, that is your PATA cdrom device.
21:26<pwlandoll>@ somiaj pulseaudio is running for sure, doesn't seem to be any difference after I kill it or kill/restart
21:26<Chanku>found two more lines containing pata: [ 1.151002] ata9: PATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0x3430 ctl 0x3444 bmdma 0x3400 irq 18

21:31<somiaj>pwlandoll: maybe it isn't detecting you have anything pluged into the port, the port isn't properly set up, or you need to load the intel snd_hda codec with a different model number to work on that system.
