08:28<lostson>EliEmergency: yes just ask your question
08:28<EliEmergency>So the most common/usable partition tables are MBR and GUID. But if i want to create one using gparted, it gives the options : msdos, aix, amiga, bsd, dvh .. etc. Are thoose different names for the same thing or what am i not getting here?

08:32<EliEmergency>If i don't want to make friends with a Windows 8 - 10 .. whatever enviroment it is not desireable to use GUID anyway, right?

17:03<somiaj>wam: one more thing, 'dmesg | grep firmware' does it say the firmware is properly loaded for your wifi card, I'm assuming yes but I just want to double check

17:11<juhaj>somiaj: Well, the crontab line is "0 4* * *roottest -x /usr/sbin/cron-apt && /usr/sbin/cron-apt" and now that I've been debugging it a bit, it actually DOES get executed, it's just that I end up with process "/bin/sh -c test -x /usr/sbin/cron-apt && /usr/sbin/cron-apt" (everything from -c is a single parameter as it should be) and /bin/sh /usr/sbin/cron-apt but the latter never does a thing. 17:14<juhaj>somiaj: Well, it starts a process "/bin/sh /usr/sbin/cron-apt" just as it should

17:20<somiaj>wam: unless you can get us the wicd logs not much we can say. The fact that wicd isn't giving logs, is the daemon even running?

17:20<wam>ok i try found on internet an answer about that

17:21<juhaj>somiaj: No. test is the same thing as {
17:21<juhaj>Sorry, same as [
17:21<somiaj>ahh yea, well your issue is something subtle in there
17:22<somiaj>juhaj: did you man cron and read the special info about how debian uses stuff in /etc/cron.d -- there are some debian specific stuff that may be effecting you (I'm not sure what I just saw it in a quick scan).

22:21<sleser>guys im trying to run winetricks from terminal and it shows me , Nothing to do. See --help. Graphical UI can be started with --gui
22:22<sleser>do i need something els ? to make it work
22:22<sleser>or am i missing anything
22:23-!-user [~user@2601:8:1f80:11e6::3d46] has joined #debian
22:23<somiaj>sleser: what command did you type. 'winetricks' won't do anything.
22:23<somiaj>you have to tell it to do something
22:23<sleser>i typed in winetricks
22:23<sleser>and it was supose to open
22:24<somiaj>then read the error
22:24-!-user is now known as Guest4770
22:24<somiaj>it says Graphical UI can be started with --gui, what do you think that means?
22:24<sleser>no idia
22:24<Guest4770>:)
22:24<somiaj>sleser: think about it, it is telling you how to start teh graphical Ui.
22:25<somiaj>sleser: what do you think --gui looks like?
22:25<sleser>like the kde
22:25<sleser>and interface
22:25<sleser>it wont open from gui ether
22:25<somiaj>sleser: think of command line options, most commands have them. 'winetricks --gui'
22:25<sleser>thats why i tryed the terminal to see feedback why it wont work
22:25<somiaj>common thing to type 'comand --help'
22:25<somiaj>it will give you a list of all the options.
22:29<somiaj>sleser: some basics about how a comand line shell works goes a long ways when reading errors. (:
22:30<sleser>its complicated to understand it
22:30<sleser>it worked
22:31<sleser>how come it wont open from the menue ?

22:34<Ionic>urgh...
22:34<Ionic>apt-get fakeroot kernel-package pulled in multiple GB of packages
22:35<Ionic>which isn't too bad to begin with
22:35<Ionic>but all those ended up marked as installed manually
22:35<Ionic>so just removing fakeroot and kernel-package will not allow me to go back to the previous state via apt-get autoremove
22:36<Ionic>that sounds like a stupid decision to take as a resolver
22:37<Ionic>(and fwiw, other package systems handle this situation more "correctly", as in: if fakeroot and kernel-package are removed, the package leaf finder will get rid of all that was installed as a dependency of those two packages)
22:38<Ionic>at least I should have a history.log to rollback...

23:14<awal_>ElDiabloWar3Evo: almost all WM's have the issue you described. I use usually fluxbox. I like it because it's easily configurable , user friendly and very fast (one work with and doesn't spend his time configuring stuffs...). I use 'pcmanfm' as file manager and leafpad/geany as text editors. all great

23:20<somiaj>ElDiabloWar3Evo: I think openbox may have a bit more compadability with CSD gtk3 apps, but I haven't tried either. My solution was to not use gnome/gtk3 stuff at all.
23:20<ElDiabloWar3Evo>I use geany for programming, but prefer not to have geany as a general editor.
23:21<ElDiabloWar3Evo>I think mousepad will do for now.. it seems much faster than gedit

23:22<somiaj>I use vim/gvim, really the same editor, one runs in consoles the other runs in a gtk2 (you can choose other type of widgets though) window
23:22<somiaj>if you want to learn vim, vimtutor will get ya up and running in about 20 min
23:22<ryouma>nano is friendly

23:23<ElDiabloWar3Evo>vim is nice, and I know i should be using it, but every time im thinking.. i could do this faster the "old way".. i go back to the old way.. So, the learning gap on VIM and how long it will take me to memorize all the commands out weights the projects im working on.

23:25<ElDiabloWar3Evo>the gvim .. does that use gtk3 ?

23:26<awal_>i run evince, transmission-gtk, and more gnome apps and no issues at all with gtk3
23:27<ElDiabloWar3Evo>The problem i had come across is.. sometimes they open up on the top left hand corner of my screen, where i can't move them at all. That is the main issue. This does not aways happen, but i am not sure what causes it to being to happen.
23:27<somiaj>awal_: it depends on the apps, evince, gedit, nautilus are the ones he is having trouble with
23:27<ElDiabloWar3Evo>being = begin
23:27<somiaj>not all gtk3 apps choose to use CSD, but the ones that do will mess with non CSD complient window managers such as fluxbox

23:27<ElDiabloWar3Evo>I did notice on upgrade to Debian 8 these issues
23:28-!-mode/#debian [+l 716] by debhelper
23:28<ElDiabloWar3Evo>And that nautilus and gedit was both missing their window bolders
23:28<somiaj>it was like gtk3.12 or 3.14 that introduced them and only a few apps use them, but more and more apps will
23:29<ElDiabloWar3Evo>So, they are forcing this, and not making it backwards compatible?
