02:06<muep>my impression is that by default, logind would handle lid close events and by default it would react by suspending. but then I think it is possible for e.g. a desktop environment to request that it does not handle the lid events anyway
02:06<Cepot404>no problem , i have solve it ...
02:07<Cepot404>by the way, im newbie here, and i wanna know how to use IRC well
02:07<pppZero>well, we're onto something, I'm getting "No such key" errors from gsettings commands; and it's not "no action" on lid-close, it's "hard power off"

12:27<blast007>Yeah, you've created a bit of a mess. Third party repositories and packages are best avoided. You may need to tweak the install scripts so it will complete the install.
12:28<blast007>!pkg scripts
12:28<dpkg>During package installation, dpkg runs a script called "preinst", unpacks the .deb, then runs "postinst". When removing, it runs "prerm", deletes the files and then runs "postrm". These scripts can be found in /var/lib/dpkg/info/$package.{pre,post}{inst,rm}; as a last resort to fixing packaging problems, you can edit the script, e.g. by making the second line "exit 0" of a shell script.
12:29<blast007>or if it's a fairly recent install, a reinstall of the OS is an option

19:59<MooFz>somiaj, but I tried reinstalling. Wouldn't that fix the bootloader?
20:00<RayzrShrp>is there a difference between the nginx and nginx-full packages?
20:00<MooFz>somiaj, I honestly don't know. Just used the default settings while installing
20:00<RayzrShrp>or is nginx just a meta package to nginx-full
20:00<somiaj>MooFz: it should install a new boot loader if you told it to, but there could be various things
20:00<somiaj>MooFz: it could be you have some old drive with Lilo in the MBR, but you need to boot off of a different drive.
20:01<MooFz>somiaj: Yeah, I just did a clean install. Made it format my drive and averything..
20:01<somiaj>so it could be a biso config issue, it could be you installed your bootloader on the parition and not the mbr of the disk.
20:01<somiaj>RayzrShrp: I would say most likely since they are different packages. You can use apt-cache show pkgname, and look at the description differences, you can also use apt-file or to look at the files contained in each package for file differences.
20:02<MooFz>Anyone has a quick link to where I can download the latest debian full install img?
20:02<dpkg>To reinstall <GRUB> boot to your Debian install disk/live CD, switch to the other console (Alt-F2), mount your root filesystem (mount -t ext2 /dev/whatever /target ; mount --bind /dev /target/dev ; mount -t proc none /target/proc ; mount -t sysfs none /target/sys), chroot into it (chroot /target), run "mount /boot/efi" on EFI and "update-grub && grub-install /dev/whatever". See also <rescue mode>, <dual boot guide>, <supergrub>.
20:02-!-jllodra [] has joined #debian
20:02<MooFz>Then I could try a reinstall
20:02<somiaj>MooFz: that is the instructions to fix the mbr if you have grub, the fact that I'm seeing Lilo confuses me, since you have to do extra steps to install it.
20:02<somiaj>MooFz: do you have more than one drive in that computer?
20:02<somiaj>MooFz: did you plug in a usb drive or some other drive?
20:02<MooFz>somiaj, yeah 3
20:03<somiaj>MooFz: are you sure your biso is configured to boot up off the drive you installed to? Are you sure you installed the bootloader on the drive you are booting from.
20:03<MooFz>somiaj, I just installed from USB. Once that finished I dc'd that usb drive and ssh'd inn
20:03<MooFz>somiaj, let me check, just to be sure
20:04<somiaj>MooFz: is this an old version of debian you are installing/running (say you have an old install image floating around)?
20:04<MooFz>somiaj, would be weird if it wasn't tho. This happened after a reboot. Not after a change or anything
20:04<MooFz>I think it was debian 7.something. Don't think it was 8.0 yet
20:05-!-jathan [~jathan@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
20:05<somiaj>MooFz: well could be you installed some software that put a broken lilo in your mbr, could be something happened to your bios and it is booting off the wrong disc.
20:05-!-luckyuser [] has joined #debian
20:06<somiaj>MooFz: not really sure, but debian 7 (wheezy) should install lilo. When you boot normally did you see a blue window that you could select which kernel you booted from?
20:06<somiaj>usually can move up and down with an arrorw.
20:06<somiaj>(before it broke that is)
20:07<MooFz>somiaj: tbh, last time I tried to boot that machine was 2+ months ago. Really couldn't tell you. The only thing I could think of back that which might cause this problem is the fact that my bios is UEFI?

20:09<somiaj>MooFz: most popular software is on dvd-1 and the installer which should be more than enough.

20:10<MooFz>The network/online installation doesn't work for me, because my network driver is not supported while installing :(
20:10<somiaj>MooFz: I think youa re doing something wrong. Are you sure you are booting in uefi and not legacy mode? This means you need to have a efi partition.
20:10<MooFz>Atleast, that was in wheezy...
20:11<somiaj>MooFz: most likley you just need firmware
20:11<somiaj>!tell MooFz about firmware images
20:11<MooFz>I am booting in uefi mode yeah
20:11<somiaj>MooFz: that is just just a guess, you'd have to tell me more about your network card for me to tell y ou more.
20:11<MooFz>It's an onboard network port
20:12<somiaj>MooFz: then I'm completely at a loss. That is an old school lilo error and lilo as far as I know is not efi compadable. Also you are using gpt partition table and need to have an efi partition. I would just make sure you rebuild the whole gpt partition table and create a valid efi partition. You might want to use expert mode in the installer just to ensure you have all the options

21:06<sney>also, in the debian installer, you get the option to not enter a root password, which will give you the first account sudo behaviour that you'

23:52<RayzrShrp>i just installed php5 but how do i install it?
23:52<RayzrShrp>all my pages that need php are not loading
23:53<sney>you need to set up your webserver.
23:53<RayzrShrp>my webserver is setup
23:53<RayzrShrp>the php5 module is enabled i apache2
23:54<sney>then you need to make sure the apache2 process has the correct permissions for your php files.
23:54<sney>I like to test with a simple phpinfo file first since there's not much that can go wrong with thosee
23:55<RayzrShrp>weird now it works after using a2dismod and a2enmod
23:55<sney>if you're testing it from chrome(ium), sometimes the cache can make it seem like your changes aren't working

23:56<RayzrShrp>yeah i am using chrome
23:56<sney>chromium has a very aggressive clientside cache. incognito windows are a good way around it for checking changes
23:56<RayzrShrp>good tip
