03:03<EmleyMoor>Also, can't get a new Terminal tab
03:06<m>i upgraded to jessie by changing every occurance or 'wheezy' with 'stable' in /etc/apt/sources.list, then updated and upgraded. then i relpaced stable with 'jessie' and rah aptsget update, apt-get upgrade. Everything worked fine. Then i installed virt-manager using apt-get, and it took like an hour ar longer. i was in and out of sleep while i waited; but i thought i saw apt removing gnome... ? ANyway, now x does
03:06<m>t start on boot, i installed xfce because startx just started what looks like an empty x sessien with only a cursor and four desktops like in gnome, which i can switch through with ctrl+alt+arrows, doesnt that mean gnome is partially running? anyway in kfce any app that uses gtk, i think, is just an empty box. i.e., remmina, virt-manager, terminal
03:07<m>anyone have any ideas what is wrong based on my description?

03:21<phillipsjk>m for changing releases you should do a dist-upgrade. you should probably also check the release notes.

In /etc/apt/sources.list, change "wheezy" to "jessie". apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade. 3rd party repos like <dmo> are known to cause problems with the upgrade. See also <jessie sysvinit>.

08:42<Marcin_PL>I bet "You can't. You would have to recompile Chromium and edit the line that disallows NPAPI."
08:43<Marcin_PL>On java.com there's a warning saying you must enable NPAPI under chrome://flags, but I got no NPAPI flag up there.
08:43<Marcin_PL>That was the first place I looked for, remembered few weeks ago under Chrome on WinXP I got to enable that flag.
08:44<centrx>yeah Java applets seem pretty rare nowadays, replaced by Flash or HTML5 or native clients
08:44<Marcin_PL>And finally chrome://plugins/ don't see icedtea

12:22<somiaj>pc: tasksel is just designed to be tasks. If you don't want to insatll the full xfce task, don't. Skip that step by unselecting desktop enviorment then just install the pieces you want with apt-get/aptitude/etc
12:23<somiaj>as for why lilo isn't working, unsure there. I haven't used lilo for years. Any reason you want to use lilo over grub? Though with efi boot I've been trying out gummiboot

12:24<somiaj>lilo is just the old boot loader, it still works, but it misses a lot of modern features people like in boot loaders.
12:24<SynrG>zhanshan: ah. hmm. if only one could create a 'virtual folder' which is the union of multiple folders ...
12:24<somiaj>pc: what do you mean by 'debian graphical enviorment', I dn't recall that option in tasksel, but I've only installed jessie once to test it out.
12:25<pc>somiaj, in debian graphical expert install this is the parent option (checked by default) and KDE/Gnome/ETC are child options (not checked by default)
12:25<somiaj>pc: If you just mean desktop enviroment, that defaults to gnome unless you pick another choice. But many will just skip tasksel all together then just install the packages they want. You don't get all of the packages included in the task, but takes a little longer to pick and choose which packages you want to install.
12:26<somiaj>pc: yea that defaults to gnome unless you choose another one.
12:26<pc>I don't remember if skipping it was possible
