It's an optimus graphics on but when I do lspci I only see the NVIDIA Corporation G86M [Quadro NVS 140M] card no intel card. And in Xorg log it seems framebuffer is loaded, FBDEV: driver for framebuffer: fbdev. My guess is that I ought to have intel driver instead?

05:08<RadoQ>Moin. I have a dell Latitude d820 with touchpad and 2 pairs of buttons. The lower 2 buttons can emulate the middle-button, but the upper 2 don't. With a d600 both work the same. What can cause the difference of middle-button emulation with d280?
05:09<RadoQ>d820
05:09<twb>RadoQ: I would randomly guess syndaemon / synaptics(4) - the latter in Xorg.conf.d
05:10<twb>RadoQ: You might also be able to change the behaviour on the fly with modern stuff like setxkbmap, or old stuff like xmodmap.
05:11<RadoQ>Hmm, I moved the HD from a fuji to the dell, is the touchpad config detected once at install and saved, or is it updated on each boot?

05:12<twb>Aha! librsvg2-common

05:13<SynrGy>cool

05:14<twb>What a pain, now I had to punt that into the code next to librsvg2-bin

05:14<twb>Yea
05:14<SynrGy>it's a bit fiddly, which is why i don't do that

16:40<LetsFindOut>not on a fresh restart, but this happens randomly after some times, and then i have to restart my pc to correct it
16:40<marstelle>yes so you either reinstall with cinnamon just in case you ran some command somewhere that damaged something or reinstall with xfce
16:40<marstelle>but personally i'd say you are better off reinstalling stuff instead of troubleshooting
16:41<marstelle>before the reinstall you _could_ check the nonfree nvidia driver also if you are willing to do some testing
16:41<LetsFindOut>marstelle, i did encryption while debian setup, and i used graphical install, i didn't use any command, but still i don't think i'm using cinnamon as on log in screen the default is selected when i log in
16:42<marstelle>maybe you could even submit some bug report about some incompatibility of cinnamon with nouveau on your specific graphics card heh

19:30<marstelle>yes i was wondering if there might have been different configurations for different DEs
19:30<marstelle>like if cinnamon was meant to be more user friendly or something
19:31<Ryccardo>not that I know of (then again last time I used cinnamon was on Arch, which is the opposite of user friendly)
19:32<LetsFindOut>marstelle, didn't have sudo in cinnamon either
19:32<LetsFindOut>marstelle, always used root terminal in that
19:33<marstelle>speaking of user friendliness it is funny when distros typically perceived as less user friendly have exceptions where they are doing things easier lol
19:33<marstelle>LetsFindOut sudo su is different from su alone

19:48<marstelle>LetsFindOut the nasty stuff begins when proprietary drivers can control hardware in ways that can make it exfiltrate data in a way that is impossible to detect with normal tools :)
19:48<LetsFindOut>marstelle, does firewall not block drivers?
19:49<marstelle>otherwise they could of course do things like pad legit tcp/ip packets with exfiltrated data etc which would be harder to detect

23:55<NerdyWhiteGuy>so I tried using YUMI to put the image on my flash drive along with the myriad other installers I've got on there.
23:56<NerdyWhiteGuy>It sorta worked, although the syslinux paths were incorrect.
23:56<NerdyWhiteGuy>I fixed these manually and successfully booted the system.
23:57<NerdyWhiteGuy>However, the installer insists that it can't find the release file on a CD.

23:58<NerdyWhiteGuy>I tried mounting the flashdrive in /media, and using mount --bind to make the subdirectory where the debian installer is also available in /media
23:59<NerdyWhiteGuy>Unfortunately, it now tells me that the CD I have can't be used to install.
23:59<NerdyWhiteGuy>Is this impossible?
