09:26<n3oXz>sudo tcpdump -i lo -C 100 -w trace_$(date +"%Y-%m-%d_%H:%M:%S").pcap
09:27<mgv>if the keys with that problem are accent keys (^, ', `, ", etc) then that would be an explanation

09:28<zhanshan>mgv I do
09:29<circ-user-PaH2r>@mgv I think so. I have a german keyboard layout and as far as I know the "^" key is a dead key...
09:29<boots>ok, will do! thx
09:29<mgv>circ-user-PaH2r: change your keyboard layout to one without dead keys if you don't like dead keys
09:29<zhanshan>otherwise the result would not have been 0m0s but "command not found" or something or "metaflac is not installed..."
09:30<mgv>zhanshan: that's right. maybe you have a really weird flac file. it might help to decode it to .wav and reencode it. The commands would be flac -d file.flac then mv file.flac file.flac.bak then flac -8 file.wav
09:30<mgv>zhanshan: this will also lose any metadata the file has (vorbis comments, pictures), but you can copy those with metaflac
09:31<circ-user-PaH2r>that key is not the problem. this issue occurs randomly with any key. for example i press a numeric key, wait 3 seconds and then press the "a" key and it doesn't fire an event. so i have to press "a" twice...
09:32<circ-user-PaH2r>i just changed my keyboard layout to one without dead keys and it doesn't change the situation
09:35<zhanshan>thanks mgv gonna try that
09:36<zhanshan>mgv it worked! now length can be shown either with mediainfo or your metaflac-script!

12:15<appas>Soadreqm: humm, maybe you can create one? the syntax is just commands to run, eg. "thunar --daemon &" (remember the ampersand to keep the calls from blocking). however, in my own config, nm-applet is mentioned in a comment, but not actually launched from that file. in fact i don't even know where it's called. should work in autostart though, as long as you chmod +x

15:34<pmart>I'm talking about /etc/X11/Xsession script mainly
15:35<valdyn>pmart: not either
15:35<valdyn>pmart: why would you think its legacy?
15:36<pmart>from presence of /usr/share/xsessions?
15:36<pmart>Xsession is not used when launching session based on this directory contents
15:36<valdyn>pmart: /usr/share/xsession may contain predefined sessions, but they are by their place in the filesystem not config files
15:37<pmart>there are to be selectable from DM menu
15:37<pmart>they are there*
15:37<pmart>and then Xsession is skipped
15:38<pmart>along with what's in /etc/X11/Xsession.d
15:38<valdyn>pmart: this should be very old
15:38<valdyn>pmart: gdm had this since year 2k maybe, i cant say
15:39<valdyn>pmart: (gdm is not even part of debian anymore, gdm3 is a new program)
15:40<valdyn>pmart: the predefined sessions are selectable in about any
15:40<valdyn>pmart: *dm except xdm
15:40<pmart>yep
15:40<toad_>since upgrading to jessie's 3.16 kernel, I've been having nasty hangs (with the kernel hang warning) ... but i wasn't doing that much compiling big stuff previously ... any suggestions?
15:41<pmart>but Xsession is present in (some?) DMs under "Default X Session"
15:41<valdyn>pmart: yea, same old
15:41<toad_>that is, i start building something big, then after a while i get a hang - some processes hang completely, low cpu and low i/o, often for 10min+
15:41<valdyn>toad_: what hangs?
15:42<valdyn>toad_: these hangs are not nice, but they are not special either, some operations cause them regularily
15:42<valdyn>toad_: so we need alot more info...
15:42<toad_>I've seen X become completely unresponsive on several occasions. i've seen kernel hang messages for various processes including vmstat and iotop which i was using to watch it (waiting for a page, so i guess they were doing some sort of i/o?) ... the compile itself typically hangs for ages
15:42<valdyn>toad_: give them dmesg
15:42<toad_>also text editors and even virtual terminals
15:43<toad_>yeah, the only thing in the logs is the kernel message about the process hanging :(
15:43<valdyn>toad_: thats huge stack backtrace
15:43<valdyn>toad_: thats not "only"
15:43<toad_>you want the backtrace? 1mo

15:45<ctn3>hello, I have a problem with packages I manually installed from Ubuntu (I know... I deserve it)

23:20<ZeroBeholder>so, I have a silly question about my motherboard-- I'm thinking about replacing it with a board that has seven ethernet ports one by it's lonesome and three pairs-- is looking for a motherboard that does this silly and I should just get a mobo with two ethernet ports (one to the modem and one to a switch, spend the money on a good switch and access points)

23:21<ZeroBeholder>I know it is a general networking question and not debian specific, but it is runing debian squeeze at the moment...
