00:43<twb>I have my own debian mirror, that should have jessie udebs in it.
00:44<twb>I'm trying to install jessie from it, and after entering the mirror location, it give- I should just check the httpd log
00:44<twb>thttpd[63]: 203.7.155.227 - - "GET /debian//dists/jessie/main/binary-amd64/Release HTTP/1.1" 404 0 "" "Wget"

00:45<twb>Yep the problem is just that by default debian-installer inserts two /'s in a row, and thttpd refuses to simplify that
00:47<themill>The canonical sources.list(5) format doesn't have the trailing / on the directory name so that $base and $resource can be concatenated

00:48<twb>Normal people don't notice because apache and friends just turn // to / instead of saying "wtf you talkin bout"
00:49<twb>I should've filed a bug, but thttpd was removed from debian around 2011 for being totally insecure

02:39<jm_>that's what one would conclude --daemonize does
02:39<jm_>without knowing the exact details obviously
02:40<twb>Because systemd and upstart (and maybe djb daemontools), each daemon had to do such things on its own

03:54<leoslax>hello ZIPY^
03:55<ZIPY^>well it shows chrome is default now, but when i open a link from irc for example, it still opens firefox
03:55<ZIPY^>*chromium
03:56<leoslax>may be the problem is MIME Type
03:56<jm_>and your IRC client is actually starting sensible-browser?
03:56<bitlan>at0m|c: in /var/log/syslog i have a lot of logs from iptables, nothing with uptime
03:56<ZIPY^>its not only irc i think its every application like icedove etc, too
03:57<jm_>the same question applies to those applications - do they use sensible-browser to start it?
03:57<at0m|c>bitlan: uptime is a program, it tells you how long a machine is up. look at the logs from right before that time.

15:21<Heimdal>I lost my router last time and just got a new one.
15:21<valdyn>Heimdal: your data is checksummed on multiple layers
15:21<valdyn>Heimdal: theres no way it can get slightly scrambled
15:21<Heimdal>Its a beatiful netgear nighthawk and its thundering outside. Everything I hear it I jump a little.
15:21<Heimdal>So which one coax or ether?
15:22<blast007>unplug your stuff when it storms :) (but this really isn't anything to do with Debian)

15:24<appas>i'm glad soon we'll have global internet coverage via satellite. i, too, am addicted, and like to roam. but enough offtopic :)
15:25<blast007>I've only used coax protection, but use whatever you feel is appropriate. Keep in mind that different surge protectors offer different levels of protection, and their protection may gradually wear out over time (as they take little hits here and there).
15:25<Heimdal>appas: my wife is "really" addicted she literally starts throwing a fit and acting like I am the one in control of the lighting!!!

17:44<retrospectacus>Heimdal: you could do "sudo chmod 755 /root"
17:44<Heimdal>should I?
17:44<retrospectacus>that will allow any user to read/cd to /root

17:45<Heimdal>Not going to make the system hackable right?
