00:35<kklimonda>hi, any documentation on preseeding RAID10 setup?
00:35<acald3ron>line 761
00:37<kklimonda>ah, it seems it won't work anyway - my disks are different size (I have two 500GB for system, and then some more for data and cache)
00:42<twb>You can tell preseed to hand off to a custom script at several points
00:43-!-mrjazzcat [~mrjazzcat@c-50-134-253-3.hsd1.co.comcast.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
00:43<twb>acald3ron: I'm not sure how to debug that; do you know if the suspend command is being done by systemd or the GUI power manager, or what?
00:43<kklimonda>yeah, that'll work
00:44<twb>You could try setting [Login] HandleSuspendKey=ignore in /etc/systemd/logind.conf
00:44-!-jm_ [flier@000125af.user.oftc.net] has joined #debian
00:44<twb>kklimonda: I *always* do that anyways because stupid d-i uses base 10 instead of base 2
00:44<twb>kklimonda: so e.g. I want a 2GiB partition and d-i partman goes herpderp. At least, it did last time I tried it.
00:45<twb>So I drop to a shell, anna-install parted-udeb, then use parted by hand
00:45<twb>kklimonda: http://sprunge.us/KjaB?rst -- hope that helps
00:45<kklimonda>I don't really need that much control over partition size :)
00:46<kklimonda>but yeah, thanks for the idea of just using a script - that will work
00:46<twb>It's more annoying for LVM because then "lvs" lists them as like 1.97g
00:46<kklimonda>yeah, fair point - that does look weird :)

01:06<redanon>hi
01:07<marcelofb>Hello, everytime i boot my debian Jessie 8,1 i have to select option to type my username and password, cause if I click on the button that has my name and insert my password, debian just keeps processing but never ends, so I have to click on "cancel" and then "not listed" and insert my own username and password... sometimes that doesn't help right away, so I have to do it repeteadly...
01:07<marcelofb>here's my Xorg.0.log > http://fpaste.org/247245/
01:07<marcelofb>Had to use fpaste cause paste.debian wasn't working 4 me

01:12<marcelofb>jm_, sorry, what you mean by DM/system?
01:12<twb>dm = gdm3

01:16<jm_>there's no need to apologize
01:16<marcelofb>it seems that fingerprint-gui is not working properly at system inicialization
01:17<jm_>maybe check BTS for that

01:17<dpkg>Bug Tracking System for Debian packages, http://bugs.debian.org/ or to go directly to the bug page for a particular package/bug, try http://bugs.debian.org/packagename or http://bugs.debian.org/bugnumber . aptitude install reportbug, and check out <querybts> too. 04:54<duclicsic>well, the IP address you're trying to talk to exists on the router, not the server sat behind it
04:54<duclicsic>you need to tell the router that packets arriving on destination port 22 should be forwarded on to the server, otherwise it doesn't know what to do with them
04:54<duclicsic>most routers have a feature that allows you to configure this fairly easily

14:36<rdmm>hi guys, I have a simple question about the typical use of very normal linux commands, may I ask them here?
14:36<rdmm>btw
14:36<rdmm>I have read the man pages of these commands but I still can't understand what they do
14:36<blast007>if it's for a Debian system, sure
14:36<rdmm>of course
14:37<rdmm>yes the command is cat: in this context:
14:37<rdmm>what does it mean, the following command:
14:37<rdmm>cat a.text | text2wfreq > a.wfreq
14:37<rdmm>btw
14:38<rdmm>text2wfreq is a program that takes a text input and produces some ascii file
14:38<rdmm>so what does cat a.text | text2wfreq > a.wfreq exactly do?
14:39<rdmm>can't i just so normally feed the text file to the text2wfreq program without requiring the cat command?
14:39-!-acald3ron [~acald3ron@187.250.132.158.dsl.dyn.telnor.net] has joined #debian
14:39<blast007>cat is sending the contents of the file 'a.text' to stdout, which is being piped (the | is also called a pipe symbol) to the stdin of a new instance of the text2wfreq program, which in turn then redirects stdout to a file called a.wfreq using the > redirector
14:40<rdmm>so blast007, you are saying that cat kind of makes the content of the text file available to text2wfreq in the memory? is that correct?
14:40<blast007>you could probably feed it to a.text file directly with: text2wfreq < a.text > a.wfreq

17:41<debbian>due to a couple of bugs of grub 2.02~beta2-22 (jessie-stable) that make my system unbootable, i would like to upgrade grub to the testing version. However since my pc it's a server i dont want to "soil" the distro with apt-pinning or similar.. what do? thanks
17:43<debbian>i also thought about compiling from source, but i would like to act in the canonical way of doing these things.. please give me some advice

17:46<Brigo>debbian, simple sid backport (but from testing)
17:46<Brigo>!ssb
17:46<dpkg>First, check for a backport on <debian-backports>. If unavailable: 1) Add a deb-src line for sid (not a deb line!); ask me about <deb-src sid> 2) enable debian-backports (see <bdo>) 3) aptitude update; aptitude install build-essential; aptitude build-dep packagename; apt-get -b source packagename; 4) install the resultant debs. To change compilation options, see <package recompile>; for versions newer than sid see <uupdate>.

17:55<debbian>thank you brigo, grub it's not available as backports, i think i'll compile it from sid as dpkg bot said.. i'm a little afraid of installing all the build-compile required packages
17:55<debbian>but it's the only way! thank you
17:55<Brigo>debbian, use another computer or a vm or a container

21:47<RageRiot>Hello, I'm trying to create some administration script, I need to be able to start and stop processes via a linux host to a windos guest. When I disable thhe firewall it works. I use config server firewall which I've configured to filter only on eth0 but running the command net rpc ... seems to pass through my first nic (eth0 ) and not the vboxhost0 interface. any ideas?
