03:23<twb>Hey, is there an obvious list of things like /var/lib/dpkg/info that I can omit from read-only debian live builds, to save space & speed up build time?
03:24<twb>Because my builds run airgapped & don't need to install/remove packages at runtime
03:25<twb>Hpmh, that's only 50MB so it's more negligible than I thought

03:47<dpkg>In order for us to troubleshoot your problem with apt-get, aptitude or dselect we need the following information: The complete output of your apt-get/aptitude/dselect run (including the command you used); the output from apt-cache policy PKG1 PKG2...; for the relevant packages and "apt-cache policy". Use to provide us with this information. Also ask me about <localized errors>.

03:54<phil123_>ups. new paste:
03:56<somiaj>phil123_: the pinning of 990 on the security repo is what is making the version from your additional repo not default. You can change this in various ways, I think adding a -t icinga-jessie to the apt-get command will do the trick
03:56-!-Fressdrache_ [] has quit []
03:56<somiaj>though that may just pin it at 990, not sure why your security sources are pinned so high
03:56-!-Fressdrache_ [] has joined #debian
03:58<twb>I prefer apt-get install foo/<release> first, rather than -t <release> foo, because otherwise it will prefer <release> for *all* the deps
03:58-!-x303 [] has joined #debian
03:58<somiaj>you can also do package=version and force it to install a paticular version too
03:58<twb>If it's something like libreoffice then you have to manually add in a bunch more libreoffice-bit/<release>, tho
03:59<twb>I just got screwed once by doing something like "apt-get install -t unstable xorg"
03:59<twb>Or rather -t unstable gnome, and accidentally also getting the unstable version of xorg
03:59-!-broucari [] has joined #debian
03:59<phil123_>On the bottom of the paste I copied in the output of apt-policy for the package I want to install.
04:00<somiaj>phil123_: correct, for some reason your main jessie sources are pinned at 990, this is probably a cusomt config set somewhere
04:00<phil123_>In which file this might be set?
04:00-!-jayaura [] has joined #debian
04:01<somiaj>I think it is some wehre in /etc/apt
04:01<phil123_>I read about apt pinning and the always are about /etc/apt/preferences but I don't have that file
04:01-!-travnewmatic [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
04:01<phil123_>nor the preferences.d directory
04:01-!-eL_bAmba [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
04:02<somiaj>though usually having the main repo pinned higher than third party repos is nice, and use one of the options mentioned to force intsalling software from this other repo

04:02-!-ramnasko__ [] has joined #debian
04:02<phil123_>But that doesn't explain why it is like that :) Can Repos set their priorities?
04:03-!-ErebusC [] has joined #debian
04:04<somiaj>phil123_: yes, but offical debian repos set it at 500, as I said it is strange they are at 990
04:04<somiaj>so it is probably in a config file somewhere in apt
04:04<twb>somiaj: default-release pulls it up
04:05<ErebusC>hey, I just installed debian last night but when I tried to boot up, it kept stalling at /dev/sda4 clean

06:06<salad>Hey, I've got a laptop that's stuck with an intel wireless wifi card because of a bios whitelist. The wired network port on it is broken.
06:07<jm_>my symphaties
06:07<salad>I installed debian on it without the iwlwifi packages as it's not included in the installer. Now that it's installed I've manually downloaded iwlwifi on another pc, and installed it with dpkg
06:07<salad>I'm kinda lost as to what to do next though. ifconfig shows only the loopback adapter, and /etc/network/interfaces only has loopback as well?
06:08<jm_>you would need to use installer with non-free firmware on it, so also make sure you have that installed now

16:27<debbian>i checked the /etc/default/grub manual page and actually there is an option ‘GRUB_PRELOAD_MODULES’ which can be used to embed additional required moduled into the core.img: it's assimilable to the grub-install '--modules' option. However, I don't have installed any additional module by using that option; Instead I used the '--disk-module=ata' option and I cannot determine if the ‘GRUB_PRELOAD_MODULES’ in /etc/default/grub will do the trick
