00:12<Raku>I have a server with two hardrives, and i have windows 7 on one for the time being, i cant get any cdrom with an iso written to get detected, i can mount the image however, would it be possible to do the netinstall within windows to the secondary hdd?
00:15<jmcnaught>Raku: can you boot from USB?

03:32<devslash>if Iceweasel is based on firefox and is only at version 31 isnt that a security risk that its missing a lot of security patches?
03:33<valdyn>devslash: it is the esr version
03:33<devslash>whats that
03:34<valdyn>devslash: extended support release
03:34<devslash>what does that mean

03:41<dpkg>For stable releases, newer versions of Iceweasel, Icedove and Iceape can be found at ; you will want the "release" repository. For users of testing and unstable, updated packages are normally in <experimental>; only Extended Support Release (ESR) versions are suitable for release in <stable> so only those versions can be uploaded to unstable.
03:41<valdyn>devslash: you can get various releasese there ^^
03:41<valdyn>devslash: the 31 release shouldnt be behind those, of course it could be behind upstream
03:43<devslash>thanks i added that report but im getting a public key error
03:43<valdyn>"You can do so by installing the pkg-mozilla-archive-keyring package. "

06:19<zathras>valdyn, I need cluebringer-* packages in Jessie. They are no longer there. In Sid and Wheezy they do exist.
06:19<zathras>postfix-cluebringer-mysql needs mysql-client
06:19<zathras>however I have mysql-client/server-10.0 installed
06:19<valdyn>judd: versions mysql-client
06:19<judd>Package: mysql-client on amd64 -- squeeze-security: 5.1.73-1; squeeze: 5.1.73-1; squeeze-security-lts: 5.1.73-1+deb6u1; wheezy: 5.5.40-0+wheezy1; sid: 5.5.42-1; jessie: 5.5.43-0+deb8u1; sid: 5.5.43-0+deb8u1; stretch: 5.5.43-0+deb8u1; wheezy-proposed-updates: 5.5.44-0+deb7u1; wheezy-security: 5.5.44-0+deb7u1; jessie-proposed-updates: 5.5.44-0+deb8u1; jessie-security: 5.5.44-0+deb8u1; sid:
06:19<zathras>I can dpkg -i --force-all the cluebringer packages
06:20<valdyn>zathras: so you cant install the actual mysql-client package ?
06:20<zathras>but then apt seems to get stuck like I said
06:20<zathras>no mysql-client conflicts with mariadb
06:20<valdyn>zathras: ok
06:20<valdyn>zathras: theres no way to foce apt to ignore dependencies, so you need to fix this:
06:21<dpkg>equivs is a package that enables you to create dummy packages that tell <apt> you really have installed (through some other means) the package. aptitude install equivs, and read /usr/share/doc/equivs/*, see also <usrlocal>. A better plan is often to adapt the Debian packages to your needs, ask me about <package recompile> <uupdate> <ssb>.
06:21<zathras>ah. nice. Did not know that one!
06:21<valdyn>zathras: read ^^ and create an empty mysql-client package
06:22<valdyn>zathras: (that doesnt really create the package iirc, it "only" installs it).

09:43<bagginsDK>Hello, i have just reinstalled Jessie. Why on earth when i delete gedit or the foolish games package manager removes some gnome packages? I mean after just removing totem, some gnome packages were detected as unused. Why is that?
09:43<themill>because you removed the gnome metapackage
09:44<dpkg>Is apt trying to remove packages that it thinks were automatically installed? This happens when you "aptitude install gnome" and then later remove bits of it causing the gnome meta-package to be uninstalled and then all its dependencies. Fix this by running "aptitude unmarkauto packagename" on strategically chosen packages, or reinstall the <metapackage> (apt-get also has unmarkauto from squeeze onwards).

12:43<zathras>gnorf why use a userland driver (at least that is what I presume)
12:43<gnorf>what is that :o
12:44<zathras>userspace: not kernel space
12:44<zathras>to start with: what are your running?
12:44<gnorf>debian 8.1
12:45<gnorf>or what do you mean by what i'm running?
