00:53<somiaj>sleser: most youtube videos use html 5 these days. What browser do you use?
00:53<somiaj>sleser: but some places may require flash, which you can install from debian non-free
00:53<Alissa>somiaj: YouTube uses HTML5 for lower quality and as a backup.

00:54<sleser>i already have flash non free
00:54<sleser>that thing isnt playing this movie
00:55<somiaj>does it need a newer version, if using iceweasel, the last version adboe is supporting of flash is fairly old (They only give security fixes mostly). chromium uses pepper-flash which is a newer version. I did see a napi -> papi package to maybe use pepperflash on iceweasel.
00:57<sleser>pepper flash is already installed

01:47<bekos>Hello everybody. Sorry if this is not the right place to ask this question: I did two fresh installs (testing and sid) and I installed KDE as my desktop system. Everything was going smoothl until I installed the nvidia driver. After that, sddm gives me a black screen and that is pretty much it. My laptop is an optimus one (intel+nvidia).

02:34<bin0x58>Hi I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations
02:35<bin0x58>for books I can read about unix systems
02:35<shawn>bin0x58: you mean linux systems?
02:35<bin0x58>sure
02:35<shawn>for unix and linux, i like to put people on unix power tools
02:35<shawn>it's an oldie but goodie
02:36<bin0x58>I thought linux was a unix system
02:36<bin0x58>no?
02:36<shawn>nope, it was originally a unix clone but it has surpassed that role
02:36<bin0x58>o ok cool
02:37<bin0x58>shawn: I've heard good things about linux power tool
02:37<shawn>it's a page turner
02:37<bin0x58>unix*
02:37<shawn>:D
02:38<bin0x58>Im currently reading "The linux command line" by william shotts
02:38<bin0x58>have you taken a look at that
02:39<shawn>i own it
02:40<shawn>that was going to be my second recommendation
02:40<bin0x58>which is better to start with
02:40<shawn>but unix power tools is more fun to read honest;ly
02:40<bin0x58>power tool or TLCL?
02:41<bin0x58>That sounds awesome
02:42<shawn>also, think about learning a programming language
02:42<shawn>flip a coin between javascript and python
02:42<bin0x58>I know java and python slightly
02:42<shawn>learning bash is overrated, you have to fight it at every turn
02:43-!-marcello1 [~marcello1@host252-156-dynamic.244-95-r.retail.telecomitalia.it] has quit [Quit: Sto andando via]
02:43<bin0x58>hmm
02:43<shawn>you can write python scripts which take care of system administration tasks
02:43<shawn>and for interactive use on a system you are allowed to install software you can install a better shell
02:43<bin0x58>what OS do you use?
02:43<shawn>take a look at zsh and fish
02:44<shawn>i use debian by choice, windows at work because i need to use solidworks for work
02:44<shawn>but our servers at work are slackware
02:44<bin0x58>but you do use a debian system at home so it must have its advantages
02:45<shawn>i use debian system at home, i have it in a vm on my workstation
02:45<shawn>i use debian also on my server
02:45<shawn>and openwrt on my router
02:45<bin0x58>Honestly I don't even really know the difference between a server and a PC
02:46<bin0x58>i don't know jack
02:46<bin0x58>but Im trying to learn
02:46<shawn>well, the difference between a server and a client is their relationship at any given moment
02:46<shawn>in their communication with each other
02:46<bin0x58>right
02:46<shawn>think of server as the one sending
02:46<shawn>and the client as receiving
02:47<bin0x58>ok so what do you use your server for
02:47<shawn>or
02:47<shawn>a better way of putting it
02:47<shawn>hmm
02:47<shawn>i didnt explain it right

22:30<Wheresthewifi>Greetings, Debian skills majorly rusty. Just installed a new system, stable, and selected the 3.16 kernel. The rt2860sta module doesn't seem to be on my system. What's the easiest way to do this?
22:31<themill>!rt2860sta
22:31<dpkg>rt2860sta is the vendor driver for Ralink 802.11n PCI (RT2760, RT2790, RT2860, RT2890, RT3090, RT3091, RT3092) wireless LAN devices, included as a staging driver (amd64, i386 only) in Debian Linux 2.6.32 kernel images. Firmware is required, ask me about <ralink firmware>. http://wiki.debian.org/rt2860sta . Removed at Linux 3.0, ask me about <rt2800pci>.
22:32<Wheresthewifi>!rt2800pci
22:32<dpkg>Ralink 802.11n PCI chipsets (RT2760, RT2790, RT2860, RT2880, RT2890, RT3060, RT3062, RT3090, RT3091, RT3092, RT3290, RT3390, RT3562, RT3592, RT5390, RT5392) are supported by the rt2800pci Linux kernel driver.
