01:36<veggi3s>i try windows yumi for debian live lxde and also net live and it doesn't work
01:36<veggi3s>it says it is looking for the cd drive
01:38<jm_>are you trying to write ISO image to an USB drive in windows?

01:38<jm_>!win32imager
01:39<jm_>!win32diskimager
01:39<dpkg>win32diskimager is much more reliable than <unetbootin> for copying ISO images to USB sticks and you can download it from http://sf.net/projects/win32diskimager/ . Adjust the file mask from *.img to *.* if it doesn't show our .iso images. See <usb install> and <install debian> for further details.

01:49<shawn>veggi3s: win32diskimager writes raw to the disk, nothing more and nothing less. so it eliminates possibility of yumi or unetbootin or rufus causing problems which make us chase our tails
01:49<shawn>why add complexity to something that doesnt need any complexity

03:58<Kuhndoo>jm_: dont know, its a standard debian 8.2 installation

03:59<Kuhndoo>to be honest, no idea... the box is 3 years old. AFAIR systemd was introduced to debian a few months ago?
03:59<Kuhndoo>so the box should use init.d (unless it automatically upgraded to systemd when using apt-get upgrade)
04:00<jm_>it was changed to systemd by the looks of it
04:00<Kuhndoo>yeah, apprenetly
04:00<Kuhndoo>but no idea why I'm getting these error message (and if I should worry about them)

05:31<babilen>MO_Handes: You will be using iptables in every case, but might prefer an "easier" frontend such as ferm or even ufw -- https://wiki.debian.org/Firewalls
05:32<babilen>That being said: You probably rather want to ask them to configure a firewall on their network boundary to make sure that malicious traffic doesn't reach your box in the first place
05:32<duclicsic>these UDP attacks were incoming towards your VPS from somewhere on the internet?
05:33<duclicsic>because no amount of firewalling on the VPS will stop the provider from suspending service, they will be doing that to protect their network
05:34<duclicsic>or maybe someone was using a listening service on your VPS in a reflection/amplification attack? in which case a very basic iptables set will sort that out..

08:07<synthor>heya, i installed a fresh debian 8.1 with xfce desktop with no problems. now i want to install all the packages i need and ran into a dependancy error. package meld wants to install libgles1-mesa_10.3.2-1 but the download breaks with a 404 error. watched directory structure of /mesa and found and downloaded a libgles1-mesa_10.3.2-1_amd64.deb but it won't install because it needs a different version of libgles1-mesa....any hint to solve that issue?
08:08<synthor>only found ubuntu errors regarding libgles1-mesa, but i moved from xubuntu to native debian with xfce and got this error

13:02<rled>Geez Guiz, I remember the time when all of Debiandistro was the size of netinstall.
13:02<cx405>kre10s: beware. If you delete a file, it will be deleted everywhere. If you incorrectly choose desynced disk, it may rewrite good data with broken data. If files on the disk will be affected by bit-rot, raid will not help you. RAID is for securing hardware against failures, not files. Just to make sure you don't suffer from data loss.

Iexpect to see a screen similar to http://www.guyrutenberg.com/2013/11/16/ubuntu-freezes-when-booting-with-degraded-raid/ telling me there is a problem and offering to boot the degraded raid. Instead I get a timeout after some time, and a complaint about not being able to find root. Then a stripped down shell.

20:17<jmcnaught>PovAddict: I don't really know of a way to see what's in /usr/share/doc/$package/ before installing it. I usually resort to reading it online or testing packages in containers before installing them on real systems
20:17<kernelcorn>thanks, I'm aware. Freenode doesn't allow Tor connections, so I figured I'd ask here before I try something else.
20:18<jmcnaught>kernelcorn: jitsi isn't in Jessie. If you're using unstable (and the debian jitsi package) you could try asking in #debian-next
