---Daychanged Thu Oct 15 2015
00:00<D->You can install it 'on' the live CD, BUT it will not remain between boots.
00:00<somiaj>Ronald1: I don't think this package will get installed on your system if you use the live image isntaller, but I am not positve. The isntaller may just give the image of the live image and not anything you changed while it was running.
00:00<somiaj>Ronald1: the netboot is not a live system, netboot is just a minimial installer enviorment that is booted over pxe boot from the net.
00:01<Ronald1>is it possible to install a package using the netboot or do I need a live system for that. I want ufw to run while installing and then be done on reboot

00:02<D->You need a live CD.
00:02<somiaj>use a live image to install with you want a fully functaionl live system to install from.

00:07<somiaj>correct
00:07<somiaj>Note the installer from the live image may be diffrent than the debian installer, But they both give running debian systems ni the end
00:08<Ronald1>they install the same packages right somiaj?

00:10<somiaj>Ronald1: the live system may install the live image (as opposed to a minimial system). The software is the same, but it may be a different collection of packages after the initial install. You can ofcourse modify things once installed

00:11<somiaj>If you read the live documentation they talk about the two types of installers. The live image can either provide a copy of the debian installer (which I think you can run only from boot), or the live image installer which copies the live image. Still from teh same pool of debian packages, just a different starting point
00:11-!-chiangkl [~smuxi@14.192.241.207] has joined #debian
00:12<Ronald1>I will take a look at both options. I may try a netinstall still. Was curious only because I did not know how open debian was when using the netinstall.
00:12<Ronald1>thank you.
00:14<somiaj>Ronald1: there is a very minimial console that you can use during the normal debian-installer but you can't do much with it. If you want to have some sort of enviorment while you install you'll want a full live system.

01:43<Das_Cheese>Is there anyone (that wants to help) that knows lightdm greeter config well? I'm overwhelmed with trying to fix my greeter (login screen). One of my two monitors repeatedly flickers, and the monitors are mirrored. In debian testing w/ xfce (neither of which should matter in relation to the greeter) and an nvidia gpu (might matter)

01:46<Das_Cheese>so i'm finding out very quickly that i know far less about linux than I had previously thought. woo. >_<

01:48-!-alexandru [~alexandru@188.27.202.193] has joined #debian
01:48<Das_Cheese>the only time it ever happens is in the login screen. and the lightdm greeter is in charge of that. yeah, stops immediately after login
01:48<Das_Cheese>i guess i could autologin to mitigate that, but that's no fun :P
01:49-!-alexandru is now known as Guest5201
01:49<jm_>did you check what monitor shows before and after login with respect to the video mode used?
01:50<Das_Cheese>well the displays are mirrored during login screen, and extended (continuous) after, if that's what you mean
01:51<jm_>no, I mean use monitor's controls and OSD menus to see details about video mode used

02:23<jm_>Das_Cheese: yeah it decides to use 1152x864 for both monitor, although looking at modes it could use 1440x900"x59.9 - does it flicker if you change it to this mode after login? you should be able to do this using xrandr (or some graphical front-end for it)
02:24<jm_>'xrandr -q' to get a list and then set it (man page has examples)
02:25<Das_Cheese>jm_, just going into my wm display settings, yes. it actually does flicker when in 1152x864 75Hz. Interesting...
