03:48<magdon>to problem started when I accidentily deleted /var/dpkg folder
03:48<magdon>I managed to install dpkg again but my system was already messed up.
03:49<dutchfish>magdon, ok, one left, try: aptitude reinstall [package1] [package2] ..... (all the packages which have a dep error)
03:49<dutchfish>(one line)
03:49<dutchfish>magdon, if that didnt work paste that output
03:51<dutchfish>magdon, you did make a backup, if not you need to `aptitude clean && aptitude update && aptitude safe-upgrade` then repeat the former reinstall line
03:52<magdon>I don't have a backup
03:52<dutchfish>magdon, this can get hairy then, but try first what i stated
03:52<magdon>I install yesterday the distrubution...
03:52<magdon>distribution
03:52<magdon>I can't reinstall the packages
03:52<dutchfish>magdon, if this is a fresh install, i would rinse and repeat
03:53<magdon>its not the first time I'm facing the same issue
03:53<magdon>with dpkg
03:53<magdon>that was the reason I formated the laptop :)

03:56<dutchfish>magdon, that clearly states de debconf db is hosed
03:56<dutchfish>magdon, we need to rebuild that (if you insist to fix this instead of a complete reinstall)
03:56<magdon>complete reinstall debian?
03:57<dutchfish>magdon, if this is a fresh install, yes, or take an older backup set

03:59<dutchfish>magdon, worth a peak inside
03:59<magdon>no,I didn't demand any backup.
03:59<dutchfish>magdon, but if you manually deleted files, all bet's are off
03:59<magdon>what you mean?
04:00<magdon>oh I see.I totally messed up the laptop
04:00<dutchfish>magdon, if you accidentilly deleted dpkg db's, you cant revive them from other files
04:00<magdon>even I rebuild the packages ?
04:00<magdon>I tried to reinstall all of them
04:00<magdon>with no luck
04:01<magdon>through sypaptics manager.
04:01<dutchfish>magdon, but having said that, you can restore (with patience) the db's and missing files form the packages, but it is far easier to just reinstall the OS completely, certianly if this was a fresh install
04:01<dutchfish>magdon, forget synaptics, it wont help you with this problem
04:02<magdon>I see.
04:02<magdon>I'm running a fresh install then.
04:02<magdon>thanks for your help.
04:02<dutchfish>magdon, np, good luck, and next time make backups!

09:05<endcarnage>However if I reboot the machine, the eth0=eth0 is again missing in /run/network/ifstate and I have the same problems as before.
09:05<endcarnage>I also already found out /run/network/ifstate is created during boot according to the auto entries in /etc/network/interfaces and I think that is already configured correctly (worked perfectly on Squeeze).
09:06<endcarnage>So now I'm looking for a more permanent solution to my problem, but I have no clue on where to start looking.
09:06<babilen>+1 perfect question
09:06<Altered_States>I'm running elementary OS which is ubuntu/debian based
09:07<babilen>dpkg: elementary os
09:07<dpkg>elementary OS is a Linux distribution based on <Ubuntu>. It is not supported in #debian; ask me about <based on debian>. http://elementaryos.org/ #elementary on irc.freenode.net.

09:10<Altered_States>Thanks babilen, i'll try there, although i think this is is a hardware issue (displayport to hdmi converter)

14:22<valdyn>mdxzero: so there you have the arch mismatch
14:22<valdyn>!multiarch
14:22<dpkg>Multiarch allows you to install foreign architecture packages. For example, to allow i386 packages to be installed on an amd64 system: «dpkg --add-architecture i386 && apt-get update». See http://wiki.debian.org/Multiarch and <multiarch howto>, <multiarch failures>. For the unrelated installer that can install i386 or amd64, see <multi-arch installer>.
14:23<valdyn>mdxzero: and you need "libglib2.0-0:i386"
