02:49<Phillis29>Hello, I have a non-system raid array. If I enter it in fstab to be mounted on boot and the array is down, a start job is run for 1.30mins and then the machine goes into maintenance mode..is this normal??
02:49<jm_>with systemd it is I believe
02:49<Phillis29>so if my raid dies and the machine reboots, it just won't boot properly for a non-system partition???
02:50<Phillis29>am I alone thinking this is compeltely retarded and dumb?

03:01<Phillis29>doesn't change the fact it is retarded by default

04:30<jm_>so your partition sizes are listed there, are they of correct size (1.7G and 27.1G)?

04:30<dpkg>Linux Mint is not Debian and is not supported in #debian. Please use their forums at http://forums.linuxmint.com/ or join #linuxmint-help on irc.spotchat.org for support. Linux Mint is variously based on <Ubuntu> with a "Linux Mint Debian Edition" (LMDE) also available. See also <based on debian>, <mintppc>.

04:32<jm_>then try asking dpkg about mintppc, not much else we can do for you
04:32<jm_>df shows free space for mounted file systems, not partitions

08:07<Alina-malina>how to correctly make the copy of directory on debian server without messing the date of files?
08:07<jm_>cp -a
08:08<Alina-malina>what about archiving?
08:09<jm_>what archiving?
08:09<Alina-malina>i mean gziping it, will it mess the date of files when i decompress it in onother OS?
08:11<EmleyMoor>On my main box, I have a remnant remote printer showing in cups - it's no longer on the server. How do I get this machine to "forget" it?

08:34<jm_>FourDollars: even with -fortify?
08:34<FourDollars>jm_: cc -g -O2 -fPIE -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat -Werror=format-security -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Wshadow -Wpointer-arith -Wcast-qual -Wsign-compare -Iincludes -g -DPREFIX='"/usr"' -D_GNU_SOURCE=1 -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -c src/utils.c -o src/utils.o
08:35<FourDollars>jm_: Do you know where is the problem?
08:35<jm_>FourDollars: no but the wiki page tells you how to disable certain features so try that I guess
08:36<FourDollars>jm_: Yup, it looks like but I do use "export DEB_BUILD_MAINT_OPTIONS = hardening=+all" in debian/rules. That's weird.
08:37<jm_>FourDollars: isn't it expected to use "fortify" then?
08:38<FourDollars>jm_: OK. I found "Code compiled with -Werror and using memcpy/strcpy with qualifier overrides will fail with FORTIFY enabled" in the wiki page.
08:38<FourDollars>"-Werror=format-security" may be the problem.

12:19<quantic>Sp0nken: correct. If you want to install something from backports, you have to manually specify the repo for that operation.
12:19<blast007>LeLutin: it does look like there are only AMD64 and ARM64 packages now. Didn't have luck finding the discussion about that change (or even a mention that there *was* a change).
12:20<Sp0nken>Strange enough, it went through without errors now with the "main" location. But i will keep that other adress for future use

15:33<olinuxx>(specificaly "jessie-updates" or "jessie/updates")
15:36<quantic>olinuxx: different repos, afaik
15:36<quantic>one is updated packages, and the other is specifically for security updates. iirc.
15:36<olinuxx>you're 100% sure quantic ?
15:37<quantic>obviously not. :P
15:37<olinuxx>fait enough :)
15:37<Brigo>security update is only from security.debian.org

15:40<Brigo>olinuxx, i think "jessie-updates" or "jessie/updates" are the same, just for volatile information like virus database or so.

15:43<blast007>what part?
15:44<olinuxx>difference between "deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main" and "deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main"
15:44<quantic>jessie/updates are security updates. jessie-updates are functionality enhancements and bugfixes.
15:45<olinuxx>awesome quantic, I was looking at this kind of anwser
15:46<olinuxx>(and I didn't see one of your previous message which was already saying the same :/ bad one me)
15:46<quantic>olinuxx: "Some packages from proposed-updates may also be made available via the stable-updates mechanism. This path will be used for updates which many users may wish to install on their systems before the next point release is made, such as updates to virus scanners and timezone data. All packages from stable-updates will be included in point releases.
15:46<quantic>From https://wiki.debian.org/StableUpdates
15:46<blast007>in any case, you should fix your sources.list as I don't think security updates are mirrored, and thus would not be on http://http.debian.net/debian
15:46<quantic>blast007: correct.
15:47<olinuxx>blast007, this is exactly the point that I'm trying to reach, the sources.list of this computer is a mess
15:47<quantic>jessie/updates should ONLY be retrieved from security.debian.org
15:47<quantic>olinuxx: Want a non-screwed sources.list?
15:47<quantic>olinuxx: http://pastebin.com/E6psa6se
15:48<blast007>the backports part there is optional
15:48<quantic>also true.
15:48<quantic>But it doesn't do anything unless you manually select that repo for each action.
15:49<blast007>as is having "contrib non-free" at the end of the lines (unless you need something non-free)
15:49<blast007>it does add some extra downloading and processing time for an apt-get update to have unnecessary stuff there

19:26<Sp0nken>I'm trying to make a public ssh server as secure as possible and just made private/public keys etc, and i have it to work the way it should. But i'm a little bit confusing because it doesn't matter if i have "AuthorizedKeysFile" commented out or not in sshd_config? It require me to type that password anyway
19:26<Sp0nken>Also, i wounder if it is any diffrience according to security if using "PasswordAuthentication no"?

22:46<twb>That looks a lot like pulseaudio is in use
22:46<twb>please pastebin contents of /proc/asound/cards
22:46<Raku>Yep

22:47<Raku>http://paste.debian.net/318479/
22:47<twb>Huh, maybe you just have a very very simple card
22:48<Raku>I wouldn't doubt it
22:48<twb>Anyway, what I see there looks OK to me

22:48<Raku>Ya
22:48<twb>How are you testing sound generation?
22:48<Raku>Just playing stuff
22:48<Raku>Through mpv
22:49<Raku>And mplayer
22:49<twb>Try "aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav"
22:49<twb>Or speaker-test
22:49<Raku>Nothing
22:50<twb>OK, let's check the physical hardware
22:50<twb>You have a 3.5mm TRS jack, with a green sleeve, on the computer? And you plug the amp or headphones into it?
22:51-!-eugene_ [~eugene@kite.raptor.kiev.ua] has joined #debian
22:51<Raku>It's usually an amp
22:51<Raku>Tried headphones though
22:51<Raku>Hold on lemme try some different ones
22:51<twb>OK, yeah, next step is to try different speaker
22:51<twb>If you have more than one TRS jack on the computer, I would also try all of them
22:52<twb>And probably leave aplay or speaker-test running in a loop at the same time :-)

22:54<Raku>Unless the card just died i don't think the output device is the problem
22:54<Raku>Just tried all the ports for good measue

22:55<Raku>None worked

22:55<twb>if the card was all the way dead, it wouldn't appear in lspci
22:55<twb>It could be a short in the wiring on the TRS jack, but that's unusual
22:56<Raku>That's rather annoying if it's something to do with the card
