01:33<twb>k-man: are you using systemd?
01:34<twb>If you use systemd, and you log in in a "normal" way, you don't even need to be a member of the cdrom group.
01:35<twb>ls -l /dev/sr0 ---> it'll say 'rw-rw----+' -- the + means it has had ACL rules added by systemd.
01:35<twb>I can't remember how to list them
01:36<twb>xfburner4 might be trying to privesc explicitly via polkit+dbus, rather than just trying to write directly to the device. Thunar is like that for mounting.

03:29<Rholk>Hi, i have a kernel panic using stretch. Topo is: hybernation seems to have fail and now when i want to restart the laptop, the kernel oops at function scsi_runtime_resume / sd_resume.
03:30<Rholk>If i change kernel, i can boot. But if i remove this kernel and install it again, everytime i want to boot on it... kernel oops.
03:30<Rholk>Is there a way to clear hybernation state for this kernel?

04:10<jm_>Rholk: better to mkswap/zero it
04:11<Rholk>jm_: i booted on windows and use virtualbox with one of my debian to debug the faulty one (linked as a raw disk)
04:11<Rholk>jm_: and i can also boot the faulty disk on virtualbox using efi option. And it is the same problem. (so i think it is not bus / hardware related, the disk work correctly from another debian)
04:11<Rholk>jm_: i will give this a try
04:12<jm_>Rholk: well if you omit 'quiet' as kernel boot option you would see if there's an issue with the disk (it might be a good option in general for this issue)

05:59<p0rk0ff>for which package? locales or systemd?
06:00<twb>argh can't find the code
06:00<p0rk0ff>i'll check a couple of things before
06:03<twb>debian/patches/Update-localed-to-use-the-Debian-config-files.patch or debian/patches/0001-Add-back-support-for-Debian-specific-config-files.patch maybe
06:03<jm_>yeah that one
06:03<twb>Both change locale.conf to default/locale
06:03<twb>Both are present in 215-18
06:04<jm_>but that's only done if reading/parsing "/etc/locale.conf" fails
06:04<jm_>so still confusing
06:04<twb>When I tested it, /etc/locale.conf was *completely ignored* in v215 on jessie
06:05<twb>YMMV, good luck, etc.

13:55<lindi->torouter: no, it is certainly used
13:56<torouter>so putting swap on its own dedicated drive only creates an additional point of failure right?
13:56<mtn>torouter: swap is not necessary, but may be used if needed. I don't use it on my box
13:57<mtn>torouter: are you going to use more than 24G of ram?
13:57<Sp0nken>I'm woundering how to mix virtual hosts with http and https on the same server without conflicts? E.g 000-default pointing to and 000-default-ssl to

13:57<mtn>torouter: I don't mean adding ram, but using ram while system is running

14:01<mtn>torouter: a year or so, I guess. never get over 3G used, even using vbox
14:01<torouter>yeah I remember when I used to do builds with swap being twice ram capacity, but that was a long time ago
14:01<spel>& I'm just sitting here with a 64gb swap on my hdd just to be safe

14:02<mtn>lindi-: maybe, not issues I can see. works just fine.
14:02<mtn>torouter: of course not

21:53<defcon>im also new to debian and such i have converted from windows to deb
21:53<defcon>a big lea for me
21:54<somiaj>defcon: so what is your question. We don't really support windows here, but we can help you get debian up and running.
21:54<defcon>i am already up and running just need help on how i can mount windows to usb
21:55<defcon>is there any software that will let me mount the iso to usb
21:55<defcon>from deb
21:56<somiaj>defcon: lets be clear. Do you want to mount the filesystem on the usb drive, or do you want to mount the iso located on a file system on the usb drive?
21:56<somiaj>both are possible, but which one is important
21:56<defcon>file system on the usb
21:56<somiaj>defcon: many desktops will mount this automatically when you plug it in? Are you using gnome, if so did it mount when you pluged it in?
21:57<defcon>im a wizard on windows but converted to deb becouse is more complex
21:57<somiaj>defcon: and then de's like gnome try to automate everything, and I just don't want to conflict with those tools
21:57<defcon>i tryed draging the iso to usb and extracting

21:59<somiaj>defcon: and when you open up the usb there is an .iso sitting on it?
22:00<somiaj>defcon: no need to mesage me and I don't want to support over another medium. I can help you here.
22:00<somiaj>defcon: if you right click on the .iso it doens't give you an option to mount it?
22:01-!-tirz_1 [] has joined #debian
22:01<somiaj>defcon: Just seeing if that option is there, if not I'll give you the commands that should work.
22:01<defcon>options are there
22:01<defcon>extract here * extract to
22:02<somiaj>defcon: ahh lets avoid those, do you know how to open up a terminal?
22:02<defcon>terminal opened
22:02<somiaj>open up a terminal and find the location of the .iso in your file system, it should be in /media/something/something.iso, can you with ls find the location of your .iso file in your file system?
22:03<defcon>the iso is on my desktop
22:03<somiaj>defcon: no there is an icon in your desktop as a shortcut, but I need the actual location of it in your file system. I belive the usb drive is mounted under /media/something where something is the name of the usb

22:07<somiaj>defcon: thanks. Anways we need a place to mount the iso. 'mkdir ~/winiso_mnt', then 'mount -o loop /path/to/windows.iso ~/winiso_mnt' will mount the iso file system in that directory I had you create. And you can access it from there. That make sense?
22:08<somiaj>defcon: you may need to put a 'sudo' in front of that command, you have to root to run it.

22:10<somiaj>defcon: I don't know what you mean by that? Are you trying to put this windows7.iso on a usb drive so it is bootable and can install win7 on another machine?

23:48<blubee>hi guys I am having some trouble getting both wl and kernel 4.2.0 working properly on my device
23:49<asdffff>this isnt debian offtopic folks.
23:49<asdffff>is that my fault.
23:50<blubee>this is what happened
23:50<blubee>I updated to the backports kernel 4.2.0 and that fixed the mouse problem but now debian won't allow me to modprobe wl
23:50<blubee>I get a fatal error when trying to call modprobe wl
23:50<blubee>looking at the logs, it seems that there's some mixup with the 4.2.0 kernel and the broadcom drivers
23:50<asdffff>a dude turns gay?
23:50<blubee>is there any way to get the broadcom drivers to work with this kernel 4.2.0?
23:50<blubee>blubee> seems like it's a bug on ubuntu as well

23:54<gsimmons>blubee: You would want to use broadcom-sta (available in jessie-backports) as this version has Linux 4.2 support.
23:56<blubee>gsimmons: oh awesome, let me try and download that one
