10:00<zykotic10>n8ng: no, upgrades to new releases do not happen automatically.

10:02<n8ng>zykotic10: is this thing is in the roadmap
10:02<zykotic10>n8ng: sorry, i don't understand your question.
10:03<abrotman>No, automatic upgrades like that are generally considered bad
10:03<n8ng>the auto-update from one release to next
10:03<ompaul>!repeat
10:03<dpkg>Please don't immediately repeat your question if no one answers it. If no one answers, that means that either no one knows the answer to your question, no one is willing to answer it, or you haven't provided enough information. Ask me about <ask> or <sicco> if you need help phrasing your question. If you don't get an answer here, go ahead and try asking your question on debian-user@lists.debian.org
10:03<abrotman>it's one thing to go from 8.2 to 8.3, but to go from 8 to 9 would be an unsettling surprise
10:03<zykotic10>n8ng: as abrotman said above - it wouldn't be a good idea.
10:04<n8ng>dpkg: will not repeat in future
10:04<dpkg>no idea, n8ng
10:04<ompaul>n8ng: when 9 is ready then you might consider moving in the mean time, apt-get update && apt-get upgrade keeps your security stuff patched and while we are on the subject of good things

12:09<oscarr>somiaj: ok, but on windows there is no problem, and even when using just alsa its much better. but i need pulseaudio server to listen skype/ts/audio player/ game music in the same time.
12:10<somiaj>oscarr: in that case it could just be a dirver issue, ltos of times linux drivers are reverse engineered and may not be as good as their windows counetrparts.
12:10<somiaj>oscarr: yea that is why I keep my sblive, I like hardware mixing over software mixing (though with dmix alsa does have software mixing). It is a shame skype dropped alsa support.

17:25<PovAddict>if you want sid, use sid, why have stable sources in the list?

17:27<PovAddict>(sorry for mixing unstable/sid so much :p)
17:28<mbp>ah ok, I understand. well ok, then my fault was to use the virtualbox.org repo (which uses jessie), what cannot work with sid....

It is to slow, and the progress bar is not really exactly. How do i solve this two problems? On a pendriver I solve the progress problem mounting it with async option. 22:19<misterhat>well it's the only one available
22:19<misterhat>all of the other archs were removed
22:19<misterhat>why is it the only one left on packages?

23:48<thomasross>I'd like to take space off of /home
23:49<somiaj>thomasross: there are various tools that can resize filesystems and then partitions. You should probabaly do this with all the partitions unmounted, sometimes form a live system if it is your main root filesystem.
23:49<somiaj>thomasross: I belive gparted can do this froma graphical enviorment. And it is always best to backup data before you start doign this
23:49<thomasross>somiaj: yes, I tried using gparted live, however, /home is at the very end, and / is at the very to

23:52<rex51>hello
23:52<rex51>can anybody tell me how can i change the whole UI in debian?
23:53<rex51>hello?
23:53<somiaj>rex51: what do you mean by UI? Do you mean you want to change to a different desktop enviorment?
23:53<rex51>ya
23:53<rex51>a different desktop environment
23:54<somiaj>You are running debian jessie correct? Any idea what desktop enviorment you would like to install?
23:54<rex51>can you tell how to do that?
23:54<rex51>ya
23:54<somiaj>I can, but I would like to know which desktop you would prefer.
23:54<rex51>i want something cool
23:55<somiaj>In jessie the options are gnome, kde, xfce4, lxde, mate, cinimon, plus there are lots of stand alone window managers
23:55<rex51>which one is best looking?
23:55<somiaj>rex51: that is going to be relative to you. Note debian due to its choices may not the "coolest" of defaults, but if you take time to configure it you can get something you like.
23:55<somiaj>rex51: that is dependent on your views and how much work you want to put into it.
23:55<rex51>alright
23:56<somiaj>rex51: I can't say which one would be the best looking to you (and I don't use any of them and don't give the one I use as a suggestion because it is not what most people want -- and takes a good amount fo work to configure)
23:56<rex51>tell about yours
23:56<rex51>i wana try it once
23:56<somiaj>rex51: I use a simple window manager called fvwm. Its defaults will be considered 'really ugly' by most, but with time you can make it look good.
23:57<rex51>alright
23:57<somiaj>But it takes a lot of work to configure, I would not suggest it unless you really want to spend the time learning to configure it (adn most things in it are not automatic)
23:57<rex51>how do i get it?
23:57-!-kaiarne [~kaiarne@2a02:d40:3:6::2e08:c431] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
23:57<rex51>ok
23:58<somiaj>rex51: you can install all of these from the debian repos. 'apt-get install fvwm', but I would suggest trying the other desktops. Many seem to like xfce, so 'apt-get install xfce4'
23:58<rex51>ok
23:58<somiaj>rex51: note different window managers and de's can live side by side (They take up disk space) but they shoudln't make one run slower than another.
23:58<rex51>ok
