00:30<cynixNas>in wheezy, the brightness keys works out of the box. i then compared the showkeys between the two and realize that i have to sleep in jessie to get it to be the same as in wheezy, else it will always show "465"

11:16<somiaj>EmleyMoor: bad crontab so it isn't actually run. Bad script so the commands just error out (common issue is cron may not have the same PATH as you are use to, so use full paths in your commands)

11:20<somiaj>in my mind the common culprits are either 1) some issue with the crontab causing cron to either ignore or not run the job. 2) something wrong with the actual job (script) causing it to not run, or exit without giving any info.
11:21<EmleyMoor>I think I've just spotted an error caused by what mlmmj has put in. I'll fix that and then we'll have to wait and see... but if I still have no sign of my backup job running, I will share the crontab.

15:14<michaelis>Hi. After running aptitude install libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386 my system won't restart. Either there is a cursor in the top left corner och I get the oh no error message. I run GNOME in Jessie. The only thing that will solve it to purge nvidia*. It says something about conflicting with nouveau and that I have to edit xorg.conf but I have done all that. I've even run the nvidia autogenerator for creating the xorg.conf file but nothing works. Any ideas?

15:22<jmcnaught>michaelis: are you trying to go back to the open source nouveau driver? you should be able to just remove the nvidia packages that you've installed, and then make sure that the nouveau module is not blacklisted by any of the files in /etc/modprobe.d/

15:23<michaelis>jmccroha1, No I'm trying to the the proprietary drivers to work.
15:23<michaelis>to get the
15:24<somiaj>what video card?
15:24<jmcnaught>michaelis: i don't really know enough about them to help you myself, but the wiki page on the topic is pretty thorough. make sure to check the config and troubleshooting sections: https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers
15:25<somiaj>michaelis: are you using the nvidia driver from jessie or jessie-backports?
15:25<michaelis>jmccroha1, From jessie, I guess. No backports added.
15:25<michaelis>somiaj,
15:25<somiaj>if you are using the one from jessie-backports but installed the libgl1 package form jessie this will cause a version problem.
15:26<somiaj>michaelis: care to share the output of apt-cache policy libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386 and apt-cache policy nvidia-kernel-dkms
15:26<michaelis>somiaj, I have no memory of adding any backports.
15:27<michaelis>Can I do it here somiaj ?
15:27<somiaj>michaelis: I'd like to see what nvidia-kernel module you are using (hopefuly you installed it via the nvidia-kernel-dkms package) and libary to double check there isn't a version mismatch.
15:27<somiaj>michaelis: please put it at paste.debian.net

15:29<somiaj>michaelis: you have currently uninstalled all the nvidia stuff? Or are you using a nvidia driver from somewhere else?
15:30<michaelis>somiaj, I have currently uninstalled everything since I cannot log on otherwise.
15:31<michaelis>I get the "oh no" error message and cannot even log out.
15:31<somiaj>michaelis: well I don't see anything that could be the problem, did you ever try to install the nvidia stuff from nvidia.com?
15:32<michaelis>somiaj, No but I'll try that to and come back to you if it doesn't work. Thank you for your help.

21:39<Brigo>A1kmm, it sometimes happens to me too. I think it is a server out of sync or something like this.
21:40<A1kmm>I re-downloaded it again and now the signature is good but it is failing somewhere else.
21:40<A1kmm>So maybe the mirror is actively being updated or something.
