00:57<r4fkramer_debian>Hi all

01:22<r4fkramer_debian>I'm back twb, thanks for your patience !
01:23<r4fkramer_debian>well twb, I would like to test the behavior of any free erp in my Debian Jessie 8.2, the software I need is more or less about your comment
01:23<r4fkramer_debian>I found Odoo, but it is not free
01:23<twb>I dunno what options there are
01:23<r4fkramer_debian>although I know how to install it on my Debian Jessie
01:24<twb>I would try searching debtags & package descriptions, and looking for a Wikipedia article like Comparison_of_ERP_software (and filtering out non-free rows)
01:24<r4fkramer_debian>that is the problem, I don't know any erp free available in the official Debian repository
01:25<r4fkramer_debian>well, it is a good suggestion, twb, let me try it here, and let's see if I can find it
01:27-!-nyuszika7h_ is now known as nyuszika7h
01:27<r4fkramer_debian>for example, twb, I've found this option:
01:27<r4fkramer_debian>but, unfortunately it is not free and not available in the official Debian repository.
01:28-!-mathieu [] has joined #debian
01:30<r4fkramer_debian>through wikipédia, there is a lot of free erp options, twb
01:31<r4fkramer_debian>but, don't know which of them should be installed on Debian
01:31<twb>I suspect this is a market space without a lot of free software penetration

01:37<r4fkramer_debian>hey twb, I found any information on wiki, as you suggested, about FrontAccounting ERP and it is described as a free ERP which takes part in Debian Distro
01:37<r4fkramer_debian>but, I couldn't install it from official repository, through apt-get install here
01:38<jm_>it's not in jessie

01:39<r4fkramer_debian>it should a mess ?
01:39<jm_>squeeze? if anything wheezy
01:40<jm_>but backporting it is probably better
01:40<r4fkramer_debian>backporting ?
01:40<dpkg>First, check for a backport on <debian-backports>. If unavailable: 1) Add a deb-src line for sid (not a deb line!); ask me about <deb-src sid> 2) enable debian-backports (see <bdo>) 3) aptitude update; aptitude install build-essential; aptitude build-dep packagename; apt-get -b source packagename; 4) install the resultant debs. To change compilation options, see <package recompile>; for versions newer than sid see <uupdate>.

03:56<danondebian>Hi guys, I've been using Ubuntu for the last four months and just made the switch to debian as a trial run on my laptop. While I'm waiting on parts for a new desktop setup I have become impresed with debian however I will probably always have Windows 10 around for games.

04:09<danondebian>I do probably have one question actually. After a fresh install of Debian is it wise to add any sort of security or is the OS secure within reason out of the box?

04:13<danondebian>Ok thanks thats helpful.
04:14<twb>There is a "debian hardening" group but I'm not sure if their advice is up-to-date
04:14<twb>The overall security quality can vary significantly between packages.
04:15<twb>(Which is also try for stuff like OpenBSD, but there you have "the openbsd" and "everything I had to install to actually DO STUFF" and only the former gets strong security.)
04:16<twb>In Debian that separation is less obvious

14:24<gryps>but the kvm hypervisor is red hat based and the operating person only provides these two images
14:24<SynrG>relevant, though, and something you should mention up front when asking for support here :)
14:24<gryps>well, does this really matter?
14:25<SynrG>yes. when you're having weird, systemic issues that clear up on using a different kernel
14:25<gryps>i have a lot of system out there with customized kernels
14:25<SynrG>i'm not saying don't use them ... i'm saying disclose you're using them when asking for support
14:25<gryps>ok :)
14:26<gryps>somehow it's still strange, because the other debian 8 machines are running with 3.18.23 fine
14:26<SynrG>"i'm running debian jessie on a redhat-hosted hypervisor"
14:26<SynrG>that's good enough
14:26<SynrG>it helps us get our bearings
14:26<gryps>so the machine upgraded debian 7 -> 8 does not mount /sys and crashes with 3.18.23
14:26<gryps>the new debian 8 machines installed from scratch with 3.18.23 work fine
14:27<gryps>so somehow it seems like something in the upgrade is messed up
14:27<SynrG>i'd say so. but i can't think what

14:28<SynrG>are the fstabs similar between working/non-working systems?

14:30<gryps>the machines (also the newly installed debian 8 machines) have "devpts /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0" in it

18:23<Amarande>then three lines of "wlan0: send auth to (same MAC) (try #/3)"
18:23<Amarande>then "[ 7408.735798] wlan0: authentication with c8:d3:a3:5f:c6:15 timed out"
18:23<Amarande>then ten seconds or so later the same five lines, except "direct probe to" instead of "send auth to"
18:24<Amarande>(also, when is only a little more than half a second long enough to produce a timeout? something else is wrong here)
18:25<robert>Hi guys! I am having two problems. 1. I've just installed my Debian with xfce4 and I have no sound and control on my panel. 2. While booting I'm asked for luks passphrase for sdd1 but in the system there is no /dev/sdd1. Why? Whould you guys help me?
18:25<Amarande>robert: do you have a usb key that you use encryption on?
18:26<Amarande>since usb keys normally get /dev/sd* device nodes
18:26<robert>Amarande, sdd1 is one of my hard drives
18:27<robert>Amarande, sda, sdc and sdd are my sdd and two hdds respecticely, but on this installation I can't see my sdd
18:27<robert>Amarande, I mean SSD and two HDDs

18:28<robert>Amarande, And do you have any idea on no sound in the system?
18:28<Amarande>robert: sound is often pretty fiddly in linux
18:28<Amarande>you don't by any chance have a motherboard with ALC1150 audio, do you? I remember that one being a particular pain
18:29<Amarande>hence why I tend to source mobos with ALC892 or something else older like that

18:32<mtn>robert, I prefer pavucontrol. Install and use pavucontrol. Check sound levels and devices in Output and Configuration.
