00:20<encfs>Hi, So I have a small problem, most likely easily fixed by one of you guys... I have my linux and initrd moved from /boot/efi to /boot/ how do I 'tell' debian this so it knows where to look for them?

00:33<encfs>mythos, thanks, ln is like switch link or something?
00:34<mythos>encfs, ln -s creates a symlink
00:34<mythos>just read the manpage. it's a basic tool you should be aware of ;)
00:34<encfs>mythos, ok! that's why you do ln -s /usr/share/US/Pacific /etc/localtime
00:34<valdyn>f-a: what does having a gpg key do in relation to wanting an ssh key?
00:35<encfs>that links your local time to 'pacific'
00:35<encfs>cool, learn something new all the time using linux
00:35<mythos>encfs, yes. same principle
00:36<encfs>mythos, thanks!

01:58<valdyn>meejah: always a good idea to be rid of certain metadata on disk, but thats not the mbr
01:58<valdyn>meejah: you want to be rid of mdadm superblocks, lvm superblocks
01:58<meejah>i let the installer do "whatever it does" when filling with entropy
01:59<meejah>although, ssd, so who knows...
01:59<valdyn>meejah: but its not really important either
01:59<meejah>i'm hoping it writes /dev/urandom to the whole disk at least

11:03<DevilsAdvocat>yeah - the tails guys told me that it's got nothing to do with them and that it's probably an issue that of debian itself - I am guessing a driver problem that may or may not have anything to do with secure boot
11:04<DevilsAdvocat>when I disable secure boot it works, but only when I manually choose the distribution rather than wait until the linux-bootloader comes up

11:36<SynrGy>and so far as i know, when gparted creates a partition, it only modifies the table, again, and does not write on the partition ... of course, make sure you do not recreate filesystems in the recreated partitions!

12:33<somiaj>nokeksgiven: usually a linux object file (libary)
12:33<gegsf>Tells me to install firmware-linux-nonfree to get amd gpu firmware. but thats totaly overkill! Why should i install binary wifi firmware files to run a AMD GPU when there is the package firmware-amd-graphics ?
12:34<somiaj>gegsf: firmware-linux-nonfree doens't really contain the wifi firmware.
12:34<gegsf>so i try to get a wiki account to change that but that is also not working
12:35<gegsf>somiaj: its just needed to install firmware-amd-graphics. Thats all
12:35<nokeksgiven>Yeah I downloaded an object file called wl_absta_mimo
12:35<somiaj>gegsf: look at the description of the package firmware-amd-graphics, this is the replacement for firmware-linux-nonfree because for th emost part the only thing in that package was the amd/ati firmware.
12:35<somiaj>,v firmware-amd-graphics
12:35<judd>Package: firmware-amd-graphics on amd64 -- jessie-backports/non-free: 20151018-2~bpo8+1; sid/non-free: 20151018-2; stretch/non-free: 20151018-2
12:35<somiaj>gegsf: so it is just a package rename and those instructions are only valid for sid
12:36<somiaj>gegsf: stretch/sid (jessie will still want to install the firmware-linux-nonfree package). But yes a comment on how the package name has chagned could be added to the wiki for clarity.
12:37<gegsf>somiaj: could you add that to the wiki? i cant register. when i enter the registration data it loads a while and then i am again on the startpage. when i try to login then, its not working. no confirmation email is been send
12:37<somiaj>gegsf: and in testing/unstable, firmware-linux-nonfree now depends on the two packages they split that into. So I woudln't just change it because it could confuse wheezy/jessie users, but should be put there for future reference.
12:37<somiaj>gegsf: I don't have an account on the wiki.

12:44<somiaj>but this is not really debian support. I like that debian puts firmware in non-free, but I think it creates confusion as to the difference between truely free hardawre and non-free hardware. Just because your hardware has firmware flashed on the chip and you don't need to install it form non-free doesn't make the hardware free

15:25<Yst>Yeah, no problem.
15:26<Yst>I just installed Debian without a GUI to my machine, telling it to use the local Wi-Fi connection during installation. Now that the installation is done though, it seems to have not connected to Wi-Fi automatically. How would I go about making it connect to Wi-Fi automatically when I boot it? I am going to run it headless, so I will not be able to manually start Wi-Fi every time it boots.

15:50<Yst>nokeksgiven: Thank you. I found the Debian version <https://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse#Command_Line>, though it does not help figure out what "mode" to set. Maybe it could get us closer to getting it working.
15:52<bremner>Yst: what kind of encryption do you need, WPA2?
15:56<Yst>bremner: My mother hates passwords and she owns the router, so no password and no encryption, unfortunately.
15:57<bremner>Yst: then you should be able to configure it in /etc/network/interfaces
15:58<Yst>bremner: I did that, though the guide says to set a mode. I do not know what mode to set.

18:45<Gabriel_7>leedleLoo, Yes you can AFAIU.
18:46<Gabriel_7>You can license AGPLv3+ or AGPLv3.
18:46<Gabriel_7>"Each version is given a distinguishing version number. If the Program specifies that a certain numbered version of the GNU General Public License “or any later version” applies to it, you have the option of following the terms and conditions either of that numbered version or of any later version published by the Free Software Foundation. If the Program does not specify a version number of the GNU General Public License, you

21:06<awal>somiaj: Hi! Sorry, I was away. I'm using openbox here. I dont know if it's gtk related. qt apps also exits with ctrl+q. Or I'm just misunderstanding. I only want make changes for iceweasel, because I usually have a few tabs and sometimes I press ctrl+q when closing several tabs with ctrl+w.

21:08<somiaj>awal: as for using your wm. I'm unsure how to configure keybindings in openbox, but you might be able to configure a keybinding to ctrl-Q that does nothing (what this does is just intercept the keybinding keeping it from passing to the app). You could then make another keybinding ctrl-shift-q, which sends the window a close signal.
21:09<awal>I want change how to exit iceweasel only (with shift+ctrl+q, no with ctrl+q) because I want to have that keyboard shortcut exclusively for iceweasel no matters in which DE or WM I'm
21:09<somiaj>awal: the gtk thought was just wondering if this default binding could be controled via gtk configs, but unsure on this.
21:10<somiaj>yea, it may not be possible.

22:41<meejah>so i've "sort of" fixed my macbook 3,1 problem: if i go to the boot-manager (holding option), there are apparently 2 bootloaders, because i see 2 hard-drive icons one says "windows" and one says "EFI". If I click the "windows" one, it boots fine, but the EFI one does not -- but unfortunately the default seems to be the not-working EFI one. However, I do not know how to get rid of it (i did at one point try
22:41<meejah>installing grub-pc to see if that worked, but the last bootloader I installed was grub-efi-amd64)
22:41<meejah>the question being: how do I get rid of the EFI bootloader? or change which one the macbook wants to boot by default? (I do not have OS X)
