23:07<somiaj>varabe: no its fine, I just want to figure out which installer you are using (the live images have an installer that works, but it isn't the offical install images)
23:08<somiaj>but offical is probabaly the wrong word. debian also makes install images that are not live images. These are the main ones released.

23:08<varabe>I gonna send you a pic
23:08<somiaj>varabe: no you don't
23:08<somiaj>varabe: anyways, if you boot into the live system and then double click the installer it isn't uncommon that it gets confused and grub fails
23:09<somiaj>varabe: what you should do is when the live image boots, choose 'install debian' from the boot menu (don't launch the live system). And the installer will most likely install grub correctly.
23:09<somiaj>varabe: unerstand?
23:09<somiaj>the desktop launcher for the installer is sometimes problemamtic
23:10<varabe>That's what I did

23:12-!-Se-bash^2 [] has joined #debian
23:12<varabe>That's what i did
23:13<somiaj>varabe: hmm, I'm surprised that grub failed then.
23:13<dpkg>To reinstall <GRUB> boot to your Debian install disk/live CD, switch to the other console (Alt-F2), mount your root filesystem (mount -t ext2 /dev/whatever /target ; mount --bind /dev /target/dev ; mount -t proc none /target/proc ; mount -t sysfs none /target/sys), chroot into it (chroot /target), run "mount /boot/efi" on EFI and "update-grub && grub-install /dev/whatever". See also <rescue mode>, <dual boot guide>, <supergrub>.
23:13<somiaj>varabe: anyways if the only thing that failed was grub, it is possible to manually fix this and not have to reinstall.
23:13<somiaj>varabe: if you don't want ot manually mess with things, you could try the installer again, or you could grab the offical installers.
