00:14<Datz>twb: https://guardianproject.info/code/lildebi/
00:14<sney_>We do not talk in Spanish, this is the pc of my brother
00:15<sney_>But will you help me whether or not the problem that I have
00:15<twb>sney_: OK. Please describe the problem. Or for Spanish you can /join #debian-es
00:16<twb>Datz: OK so that it some helper script that runs debootstrap to set up a Debian chroot
00:17<seanw>Datz: show us the errors :) http://paste.debian.org/
00:17<twb>Datz: I can help with the Debian & debootstrap parts, but not this "lildebian" part
00:17<Datz>yes, that does seem to be the case
00:17<sney_>Well you know I upgrade the pc and then restart and when back inside to put the key in the screen goes blue, when he entered the desktop goes pink
00:17<themill>Datz: istr that it is selinux that you are hitting

00:18<themill>twb: yes, android has quite strict selinux bits and pieces enabled by default now
00:18<twb>Cool
00:19<sney_>Well you know I upgrade the pc and then restart and when back inside to put the key in the screen goes blue, when he entered the desktop goes pink
00:19<twb>I am only now deploying SELinux on Debian Live, and it's been a huge pain
00:19<Datz>twb: thanks.. I guess that part should be taken care of for my by the installer.. I just have some strange permission problem I can't seem to sort out.. :-/
00:20<sney_>You will can help me?
00:20<Datz>themill: I guess it could be. When I try and run the scripts manually that the installer has problems with, they seem to work
00:20<Datz>But the installation never gets competed
00:21<sney_>You will can help me?
00:21<Datz>I'm not sure how to babysit the installer
00:21<themill>Datz: how do you run them?
00:22<Datz> ./script
00:22<Datz>I'm lucky I have a bluetooth keyboard, otherwise getting into the depths of the phone is really a hassle
00:22<themill>you might be running it in a different context when you do that
00:23<Datz>humm
00:23<themill>I'm the wrong person to help though given that I tried, failed and moved on...

00:25<svetlana>sney_: more detail, i dodnt understand, does it mean it's single color desktop without any widgets on it?
00:25<Datz>there are read and execute permissions at the very least for the file
00:25<Datz>it's quite the annoyance
00:26<Datz>perhaps there is another better way to get debian, or a chroot environment running on the device?
00:26<sney_>If likewise, it is we can talk in private pa explicate better
00:28<sney_>?
00:29<svetlana>sney_: i am not very knowledgeable, it's easier to talk here
00:29<svetlana>so that others can ask you questions and correct me if i'm wrong

04:35<blubee>my backlight stuff is in /sys/class/backlight/gmux_backlight
04:35<blubee>it's gmux_backlight insted of intel or something else... How can I tell grub to use gmux_backlight
04:36<blubee>i get this boot log error: Dec 18 17:17:16 host systemd-backlight[416]: Failed to get backlight or LED device 'backlight:acpi_video0': No such file or directory
04:36<twb>That is the systemd job that preserves backlight brightness across *all* boots
04:36<twb>Sorry, across boots for *all* backlights
04:36<twb>If the acpi_video0 backlight isn't real, just mask out that particular instance.

04:37<twb>Something like "systemctl mask systemd-backlight@backlight:acpi_video0.service"
04:37<twb>If you look at "systemctl list-units" you should see you also have an instance for your real backlight (gmux_backlight?)

04:38<twb>If you are happy for the brightness to be reset at boot time (probably to full brightness), you can mask "systemctl-backlight@.service" which will block *all* instances.
04:38<blubee>is there documentation on that
04:38<twb>Somewhere in the blob of 128 manpages, yea
04:38-!-Nabbo [~Nabbo@87.13.201.103] has left #debian [Sto andando via]
04:39<blubee>running systemctl list-units there is reference to the gmux but there's also sys-devices-pnp0-00:03-backlight-gmux_backlight.device
04:39<twb>I've spent the last six months reading all of them and all the source, to try to get systemd to actually work. I don't remember where I learnt those details.
04:39<blubee>no no i'd like to maintain my brightness
04:39<twb>blubee: that long form is the canonical name of your backlight
04:40<twb>If you unplugged it from that part of the PCI bus, and plugged it in somewhere else, systemd probably wouldn't realize it was the same backlight

04:41<blubee>i can control my backlight, if i put it in /etc/rc.local i can control the backlight and they remain across boot
04:41<blubee>but that error is always there when I restart my computer, just that one line red and won't go away
04:41<twb>blubee: just mask it out then
04:42<blubee>what do you mean by mask it out?
04:42<twb>20:37 <twb> Something like "systemctl mask systemd-backlight@backlight:acpi_video0.service"

04:42<blubee>okay let me make a not just incase i destroy something
04:42<twb>masking says "systemd, I don't care who wants to run this, just shut up"
04:43<blubee>okay i'm going to give that a shot
04:43<twb>the name should match teh one that's read in "systemctl" output

10:05<SynrG>now, you can try to see if there's anything there in, say, /var/log/syslog, from before the freeze ...

12:21<somiaj>that is what enviroment variables are for, is to configure the enviorment.

12:22<somiaj>So I wouldn't view it as an improper way to do it. The other option is there is a config file somewhere in /etc or $HOME you can set these options at. I didn't find any for java and it really wouldn't matter if you used that method or an enviorment variable.
12:23<somiaj>Or you can think of it is that enviorment variable would not work if it wasn't already configured by java to change options.
12:23<ondrej_g>somiaj: yes, when those options are clearly documented

15:31<bremner>oh, wait. conceptual fail.
15:32<Guest1771>Yes but preferable one that will write to a usb..
15:32<blast007>well what kind of ISO are you trying to write to a USB?
15:32<bremner>but the point is your don't need special tools
15:32<towo`>[21:28:36] <towo`> cat, dd, cp
15:33<towo`>and if it should graphical and the iso is not an isohybrid, install unetbootin

15:36<Guest1771>just a simple program to write to a usb from within a Debian8 Cinn..
15:36<musca>Guest1771: i present the plain facts:
15:36<teward>that doesn't solve the core issue - they want a program that will write $ANY_GIVEN_LINUX_ISO to a USB stick from within Debian 8
15:36<musca>!hybrid iso
15:36<dpkg>Since the 6.0 "Squeeze" release, Debian installation images for x86 systems - e.g. <netinst>, <CD1>, DVD1 - are hybrid images. These can be written directly to CD or HD Media (e.g. USB thumbdrive) without further preparation. See http://www.debian.org/News/project/2010/14/#hybrid for details. See also <install debian>, <usb install>.
15:37<musca>!usb install
15:37<dpkg>You can install Debian from a USB stick/thumbdrive/pen drive/key on x86 systems, as long as your system's BIOS can boot from USB. Details are in the Installation Guide, see http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/ch04s03 and ask me about <install debian> for hybrid CD/DVD images. Use http://sf.net/projects/win32diskimager/ to write images from Windows. For BIOSes not capable of USB boot, ask me about <plop>.
15:37<teward>everyone else here has been accurate so far
15:37<teward>Guest1771: each distro usually releases instructions for how to write it to USB from any environment (especially Ubuntu). That hasn't changed, and nor is there one program that will do that for all ISOs

15:41<bremner>!unetbootin
15:41<dpkg>UNetbootin (Universal Netboot Installer) allows creation of bootable USB drives for a variety of Linux distributions. http://unetbootin.sf.net/ Not recommended for use with Debian CD/DVD images, as it mangles the installer in cruel and unusual ways, resulting in hard to debug problems. 19:36<bremner>having "other sources" is often a sign of breakage
