15:33<retrospectacus>if you just want to run X programs remotely and see them locally, use ssh-X

15:35<retrospectacus>I didn't really follow that, but I think the answer is No
15:35<retrospectacus>!x-not-vnc
15:35<dpkg>Instead of running a <VNC> server on Linux, run an X server on Windows and use SSH X11 forwarding. <Cygwin> provides a free (speech) X server, MicroImages has a free (beer) one, see http://www.microimages.com/mix/mix-faq.htm . To enable X11 forwarding, ask me about <sshx>.
15:37<retrospectacus>sshx is basically the forwarding of a remote application's GUI though an ssh tunnel and displaying on your local X server
15:37<retrospectacus>but Windows doesn't have ssh or an X server so it is a big pain
15:37<nevans>retrospectacus, yest it does
15:37<nevans>XMing with ssh
15:38<nevans>for windows rather
15:38<nevans>let me get the url
15:38<retrospectacus>sure, that stuff is not part of windows though. it's a pain
15:38<nevans>https://wiki.utdallas.edu/wiki/display/FAQ/X11+Forwarding+using+Xming+and+PuTTY
15:39<nevans>nah it's not bad i use it often
15:40<retrospectacus>once you get it going it's alright, but when you're used to just running "ssh -X remote deluge" it seems like a pain
15:41<nevans>it's actually quite quick over lan, and not terrible over a ~2meg connection
15:41<nevans>yeah but it's a windows client
15:41<nevans>if thats the case remove windows
15:41<nevans>install linux
15:41<nevans>if the machine is to small/old use a stripped down version of debian

19:38<bremner>!ask
19:38<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See <smart questions><errors>.

23:20<sabin2>I'm having a problem with my Xorg. I'm running sid. I used to have intel+nvidia (with bumblebee and primus) working just fine, playing Steam games and everything. At some point Xorg started falling back to fbdev (causing cinnamon to warn me about lack of hw accel). Is there a way for me to start anew when it comes to X? I've already flushed any xorg.conf in hopes autodetect would help
