00:41<aranax_>hi guys!
00:41<aranax_>is there a database who has the debian packages dependencies?
00:42<jm_>the Packages file has that
00:42<aranax_>Correct me if I am wrong but Debian UDD only provides bug information
00:42<themill>consider yourself corrected
00:42<themill>!wayttd aranax_
00:42<dpkg>What Are You Trying To Do, aranax_?
00:43-!-TomasCZ [~TomasCZ@yes.tenlab.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
00:44<devrikx>aranax_: packages.debian.org
00:45<aranax_>devrikx, exits something like an API, to do queries against it?
00:45<themill>aranax_: that depends what you are trying to achieve
00:46-!-hybridwipe [~null@cpe-70-112-61-57.austin.res.rr.com] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:47<devrikx>aranax_: I have to agree with themill, it'll return a web response, you could parse this using whatever technology you like best; and yes it has filtering options
00:47<aranax_>I want to do some analysis for a research, and I need to get the packages information like dependencies, bugs open, bugs closed, etc
00:48-!-Finley [~smuxi@174-31-182-28.tukw.qwest.net] has joined #debian
00:48-!-Finley [~smuxi@174-31-182-28.tukw.qwest.net] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
00:48<themill>The Packages file is a much better place to get the dependencies in that case.
00:48<aranax_>Do you know if exists a library that help me with the parse of the package files?
00:48<themill>(grep-dctrl is going to be faster than UDD)
00:49<themill>python-debian's debian.deb822.Deb822.iter_packages()
00:49<themill>err iter_paragraphs()
00:50<themill>If you want to look up the Depends line for a single package UDD is fine. If you want to find a particular package within the Depends line of any package, then UDD is hopeless.

00:51<aranax_>great!
00:52<aranax_>and about the packages bugs?
00:52-!-remiv [~moi@suvrin.lot-of-stuff.info] has joined #debian
00:52<aranax_>What approach do you recommend me?
00:52<themill>the output from rdepends is a bit confusing -- it can include all manner of relationships
00:52<themill>(apt-rdepends might be better)
00:53<themill>aranax_: UDD works for bugs; the BTS soap interface can work too. Depends what info you're looking for.
00:53<themill>there are python wrappers for both
00:54-!-Jim_ [~Jim@183.184.182.196] has joined #debian
00:55<devrikx>aranax_: I'd probably use the same method as themill is referencing for bugs, BTS is what I use to look at them in the web. For a terminal method I do not know of much packages which could help...maybe a look at 'reportbug'
00:55-!-towo^work [~towo@00012f0f.user.oftc.net] has joined #debian
00:55-!-aidalgol [~user@0001a1b7.user.oftc.net] has joined #debian
00:56<aranax_>themill, for example, dates when the bug was open, closed. Severity of the bug
00:56<devrikx>it does offer ability to see if problems already reported...but I'm not the most familiar with it for anything other than reporting bugs, not sure how it would work to check for bugs or if it does
00:56-!-hybridwipe [~null@cpe-70-112-61-57.austin.res.rr.com] has joined #debian
00:56<devrikx>aranax_: view the bottom of the page: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=gtk%2B3.0
00:57<aranax_>themill, do you remember the name of the python wrappers to read de bts soap, that you already mentioned?
00:58<themill>quertybts is the command line utility to look things up; python-debianbts is the SOAP wrapper; Judd has a UDD wrapper.
00:58<themill>Don't scrape the BTS website, that will end in tears.
00:58<themill>Also, there are no "closed" dates.
00:59-!-tjader [~tjader@189.60.215.244] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:59<devrikx>aranax_: was gonna suggest looking into casperjs, but I'll take themill's word for it - and that's about all I have :)
01:00<themill>aranax_: http://git.nanonanonano.net/?p=judd.git;a=tree;f=supybot/plugins/Judd/uddcache is slightly mongrel code that could do with a good old fashioned refactor to make it more generally usable (but it works fine for its intended purpose)

01:03<aranax_>thank you very much for your help
01:04<aranax_>do you know if exists also a wrapper for read the bugs debian mailing list?
01:04<themill>what do you want to get from that?
01:04<aidalgol>Is there a way to get drive info from a hard drive? (i.e. manufacturer, model, etc.)

03:57<Guest422>who to hack...who to hack..? hmmm!
03:58<satbyy>stripe: if you need static ip for for eth0, you've to do it manually. There is no "auto eth0" anymore

04:03<jm_>so you still need eth0 stanza in the interfaces file

04:08<stripe>thanks very much jm_ all good now :)
04:08<jm_>hmm? it just lists available ones
04:09<stripe>it lists both eth0 and lo, so I will just set the stanza up as normal

10:17<Dick_Nachos>Hi there. This might not be the right place to ask this question, so feel free to point me in the right direction, but I'm wondering if it's possible to convert a single disk system with an additional disk to a raid 0 without data loss. Basically, use mdadm to set up raid0 on the new disk, copy all the data over and grow the new raid0 to use the original disk.
10:17<Dick_Nachos>The system is fully backed up nightly, so data loss is not a concern.

10:51<Dick_Nachos>So, I'm reasking my question a little more clearly. If I have a partition on a disk that's getting full (we'll call it sda5), can I grab a new disk, mdadm it as raid0, copy everything to the new raid and then grow that new raid0 to include the original disk (sda5)
10:52<Dick_Nachos>if not, I'll follow petn-randall's advice to backup and restore offline, just curious if there's a minimal downtime way to accomplish the same thing.
10:53<clalove1>I see , there is any-other way to see what the router is using from the debian machine ? for example I have another machine ubuntu and with "nmcli device show" I can see which the ip.dns

10:58<duclicsic>there is nothing you can do to reveal what dns servers your router is sending queries to, without being on the router itself or something upstream of it
10:59<duclicsic>depending on how the routers dhcp server is configured, it might assign the same dns server details to and dhcp clients
11:00<duclicsic>but most of the time they seem to run a local dns proxy and they give out their own address instead

11:03<duclicsic>clalove1: running tcpdump will only show you the dns traffic between you and the router

18:41<Grenville>Hi all, sorry to ask a really stupid question, but my websearch has returned nothing. I wanted to be a good boy and switch away from adobe's flashplayer. I discovered the existence of gnash. I think that I installed both the 'gnash' package and 'browser-plugin-gnash' from jessie backports, but it doesn't seem to have added anything to iceweasel.
18:41<Grenville>any help/suggestions much appreciated.

19:28<dpkg>First, check for a backport on <debian-backports>. If unavailable: 1) Add a deb-src line for sid (not a deb line!); ask me about <deb-src sid> 2) enable debian-backports (see <bdo>) 3) aptitude update; aptitude install build-essential; aptitude build-dep packagename; apt-get -b source packagename; 4) install the resultant debs.
