05:54<PaulePanter>Hi. Using Debian 8.3 (jessie) I am having trouble installing the Epson printer driver package. (My parents unfortunately bought (and therefore) supported Epson.)
05:55<PaulePanter>http://paste.debian.net/414535/
05:55<PaulePanter>So despite having the package *lsb* installed in version 4.1 and the package depending on >= 3.2, it errors out.
05:56<PaulePanter>dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of epson-inkjet-printer-escpr: epson-inkjet-printer-escpr depends on lsb (>= 3.2).
05:56<dpkg>paulepanter: that's not the complete error. Please pastebin the command you gave and the entire output. Ask me about <pastebin> <bat> <localised errors>.
05:57<PaulePanter>http://paste.debian.net/
05:58<zumbi>PaulePanter: I am a bit confused.. why dont you install printer-driver-escpr ?
05:58<PaulePanter>Sorry, I think, I know the problem. I downloaded the 32bit package.
05:58<PaulePanter>… and my parents have a 64-bit user space.
05:59<zumbi>ok, that'd make sense.. also you could use APT
05:59<PaulePanter>zumbi: Doesn’t `LANG=C sudo dpkg -i epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.6.4-1lsb3.2_i386.deb` install the package?
05:59<zumbi>PaulePanter: yes, but epson-inkjet-printer-escpr is a Debian source package, not binary
05:59<PaulePanter>zumbi: Unfortunately, Epson has bad distribution support, in the sense that they do not include their drivers in the package archives.
06:00<PaulePanter>zumbi: Sorry, I don’t understand.
06:00<PaulePanter>zumbi: How is that a source package?

06:01<PaulePanter>`apt search epson` did not show anything, when I search for packages in the Debian archive.
06:01<zumbi>PaulePanter: using APT takes care of resolving dependencies
06:02<zumbi>PaulePanter: what happens if you `sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get install printer-driver-escpr`
06:02<grove>PaulePanter: If you're on i386 (or have added i386 as an architecture, but I have no idea how that works for drivers). One of the points of apt is that you only need to know the package name, it figures version and architecture
06:02<PaulePanter>zumbi: `apt` is a new CLI to APT and also provides a search option.

09:24<scootergrisen>From master branch
09:24<chris_se>ah
09:24<chris_se>well, since it's already packaged for debian, you can do: apt-get build-dep virtaal
09:24<chris_se>that will install the dependencies required to build the 0.7.1 virtaal package - and if nothing has changed since, it will also be sufficient to build the master branch
09:25<chris_se>(if additional dependencies are required in the mean time, this won't be sufficient, of course. it will also not work with things where there isn't already a Debian package for it)

09:26<chris_se>s are not required for building the package)
09:28<scootergrisen>When i build and try to run virtaal i get this:

14:40<r4fkramer_>Hi all ! I am looking to broaden my knowledge in file systems to Debian 8.3 and Jessie as there are restrictions of use, because the GPL license and ZFS license, I am inclined to use BTRFS in my next Debian installation. Is there a specific channel for developers BTRFS Project?
14:41<r4fkramer_>for me, it's a question of Respecting Debian Project guidelines also
14:41<jmcnaught>r4fkramer_: i'm pretty sure you can use ZFS on Debian, it just cannot be distributed as a precompiled kernel module

14:45<r4fkramer_>ompaul, as jmcnaught said: I have been interested on using zfs on Debian, but it should be installed, configured and activated through dkms module, and don't know if it's the best choice for Debian.
14:45<christian_>hello
14:45<ompaul>r4fkramer_: choices are most logically set when you have a use case.
14:45<r4fkramer_>jmcnaught, are you still doing researchs or benchmarking on btrfs ? Have you installed it already ?
14:46<ompaul>r4fkramer_: set up a partition that is not part of your core machine and learn from that
14:46<christian_>what can i install on my computer that allow me to downloads videos on youtube
14:46<ompaul>a /btrfstest and a /zfstest and etc etc
14:47<Triski>try cclive
14:47<jmcnaught>r4fkramer_: not actively. i played with it in a VM for a bit as the backing store for LXC containers (currently using LVM thin snapshots instead)
14:47<ompaul>learn about how and when they write their data - etc
14:47<Triski>ompaul, try cclive
14:47<jmcnaught>christian_: i use an iceweasel add-on called unplug
14:47<r4fkramer_>I have in mind using it as an home data storage server, but would like Debian as the OS, Debian is my OS for daily use
14:47<ompaul>Triski: ??
14:48<Triski>cclive is a non-interactive, command-line utility for downloading videos from websites requiring Adobe Flash to view video content. It is a rewrite of <clive> in C++ with fewer dependencies. http://cclive.sf.net/
14:48<ompaul>Triski: I've no interest in such a program at this time.

15:52<jmcnaught>k01dun: with systemd you want to use targets which are sort of like runlevels. "systemctl set-default multi-user.target" would boot into text mode, "systemctl set-default graphical.target" for GUI again. There's also a get-default
15:52<jmcnaught>k01dun: systemctl also has an isolate command to change targets without a reboot

17:55<chris_se>jepp, ietadm does the following: tid = strtoul(optarg, NULL, 10);
17:55<chris_se>so if the argument to --tid is not a number, tid will be 0 internally
17:56<chris_se>which is fine for creating the target itself (because 0 means: choose next free id)
17:56<chris_se>but it's not fine for adding the LUN (because 0 isn't allowed there, you'd have to determine which ID was chosen automatically when creating the target - which at least to me appears to be non-trivial)

22:04<Burz>hello
22:04<sney>hi
22:04<Burz>is anyone using the iceweasel backport?
22:06<Burz>I'm using it in jessie and since yesterday apt can no longer fetch it.
22:07<cra1g321>why would you need to fetch it again if you already have it installed ?
22:07<sney>if apt can't find packages in the repo it will sometimes consider them obsolete and remove them
22:08<cra1g321>Burz, do you mean iceweasel from here ? http://mozilla.debian.net/
22:08<cra1g321>if so, looking at the commands, it is now firefox not iceweasel
22:08<Burz>Yes
