01:05<themill>it's a wiki, you can fix it yourself unless it's something infrastructural
01:06<twb>k-man: there'll be a metapackage on bugs.d.o
01:06<k-man>themill, it seems structural. i tried to create a new login, it said that login name already exists, click "here" to resend verification link. but that link is broken

01:31<k-man>i asked this on freenode but I'll rephrase it here
01:31<k-man>what do you do if a package has a bug that is fixed in testing, but you want it in stable?
01:31<k-man>build the package from source maybe?
01:34<themill>are you wanting to import a single patch or the entire updated package? (and should it be fixed in jessie anyway?)
01:35<twb>k-man: there are several strategies, it depends on how complex the package is, whether it's a leaf package, etc
01:35<twb>The BEST option is to just install from jessie-backports
01:36<themill>jessie-backports isn't for fixing bugs
01:36<twb>True
01:36<themill>(context is https://bugs.debian.org/801555 I believe)
01:36<judd>Bug http://bugs.debian.org/801555 in auditd (open, jessie, upstream): «auditd: just run auditctl -s and get a SEGFAULT»; severity: normal; opened: 2015-10-12; last modified: 2015-12-26.
01:36<twb>But if you try to backport yourself, you'll probably shoot your own foot off sooner
01:36<k-man>its not in jessie-backports
01:37<k-man>themill, yeah, thats the one
01:37<k-man>i'm trying to build it now
01:37<twb>k-man: are you doing selinux?
01:37<themill>The original reporter says that works fine; that looks like something that is worth fixing in jessie.

01:58<R4F_Debian>Hi all, I need a help, the link where I specify the firefox version to be downloaded, in order to install it
01:58<jm_>!mdn
01:58<dpkg>For stable releases, newer versions of Firefox, Icedove and Iceape can be found at http://mozilla.debian.net/ ; you will want the "release" repository. For users of testing and unstable, updated packages are normally in <experimental>; only Extended Support Release (ESR) versions are suitable for release in <stable> so only those versions can be uploaded to unstable.
01:58<jm_>R4F_Debian: ^^^^
01:58<R4F_Debian>this information was given to me two weeks ago, but I have lost the link, sorry
01:58<k-man>i read that to say jessie has 3.16 and auditd 2.4 needs 3.18, but 2.4. i'm guessing that broke working with 3.16... but then it was fixed in later versions of auditd
01:58<R4F_Debian>Hi jm_, nice to see you again !
01:59<k-man>and building auditd 2.4.4 as the bugreport suggests seems to have fixed it
01:59<somiaj>R4F_Debian: what do you mean? What version of debian are you running?
01:59<somiaj>R4F_Debian: the packages iceweasel should transition to firefox-esr as it becomes avaiable in the version of debian you are in
01:59<R4F_Debian>HI somiaj, Glad to see you again also ! Well, I run Debian Jessie 8.3 (amd64 architecture)
02:00<somiaj>R4F_Debian: alternativally you can use mozilla.debian.net
02:00<R4F_Debian>ok somiaj, in the case, it is not available yet, that is it ?
02:00<somiaj>R4F_Debian: I'm unsure when the sercurity support will switch to the new esr version of firefox in jessie, mozilla.debian.net if you don't want to wait. Otherwise just use iceweasel and it will transition to firefox when the security is updated

02:11<R4F_Debian>You are really a Great Teacher, somiaj, thanks for that ! Perhaps I will be waiting just a little bit, and avoid migrating to firefox now
02:11<somiaj>I would just migrate, you'll want the security patches
02:12<somiaj>so decided if you want the esr version or the release version, add the new sources as given by m.d.n, remove the icewealse packages then isntall the firefox ones.
02:12<R4F_Debian>yes, but if you migrate to firefox, security patches won't be obtained through 'apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade && apt-get upgrade' ?
02:13<somiaj>you didn't have that happeneing anyways as you were using a version from jessie-backports
02:13<R4F_Debian>oh, there is backports, I have forgotten this
02:13<somiaj>i.e. you were using the packages from mozilla.debian.net and they just put in the new versions with the security patches
02:13<somiaj>but due to the name change, seems you'll have to change your system to follow the new package names.
02:14<somiaj>i.e. as I said, just do the migration. It seems you already want to run the release version
02:14<R4F_Debian>well, if it is just a question of choosing... by the way, in your case, do you use esr or release ?

02:17<R4F_Debian>many options for using Debian are based on Debian Users, for you are more experienced than me. Better for me acting like that, for I avoid mistakes
02:18<somiaj>I have been using chromium as my main browser for many years now so I wouldn't have much imput on that.

02:20<somiaj>R4F_Debian: If you go with the firefox-45 version, you could eventaully swtich it to the security version once that is in jessie and not need the additional repo. But I would say following the current relase version from m.d.n is just fine.
02:20<R4F_Debian>oh, now I understood
02:20<jm_>but really there's little reason to stick to iceweasel if you are using latest versions already, just switch to firefox

02:20<R4F_Debian>ok somiaj, I will follow these instructions and suggestions you and jm_ has passed for me. Thanks
02:21<somiaj>yea if you are happy running the latest version of iceweasel, then you'll probabaly want to dot he same with firefox. think of it this way, it is really only a name change, all other concerns are the same.
02:22<R4F_Debian>ok somiaj, only became worried about this because there was error during update and upgrade my Jessie here. So, I will follow your instructions and go on

13:11<nils>hi, can someone assist me by configuring an nfs export? I want my dreambox to mount a nfs-share on my laptop, but it is not working as intended... i can access the export (its /media/nils) which contains the automounted usb drive (all files belong to nils and also have rwx on all files/dirs) and i can see the usb drive (mounted in /media/nils/MyDrive) but I cannot see any files or directories beyond there. So there is
13:11<nils> the usb mount but no files/dirs inside. What am I missing here?
