12:39<teatime>hrm, the proper/best/official way has probably changed since I last did that on debian
12:39<teatime>so I'll defer to others.
12:40<scootergrisen>Also one time i read something about press the BREAK key and typing something if you could not get in contact with the system
12:40<teatime>it used to be you'd restart the display manager service... gdm, xdm, kdm, whatever it is. but I think now that wouldn't necessarily help.
12:40<sney>restarting gdm still works
12:41<teatime>you can enabled the Ctrl+Alt+Backspace zap sequence also if you're dealing with this often

14:03<nils>hi there. Could someone assist me in "debugging" (i know what is wrong) the starting order of my services with my raspberry pi (yes its running raspbian... not debian... but guys you might be my best resource and its not really distri dependent)? Problem is, that somehow the nfs-kernel-export service is started BEFORE rpcbind service is running, which results in failure and my exports are not available after reboot. I
14:03<nils> need a (preferrably) clean solution to solve this. I could do an init.d script (or system/somescript.wants/script) but thats not really what i want... i would like to learn how nfs-kernel-server is started BEFORE rpcbind. Would someone be so kind to help me?

15:53<jmcnaught>James2: do the files complained about in your paste actually exist? were they installed by the roundcube-plugins package? Oh... you couldn't just use an Alias in apache to point at /usr/lib/roundcube? Moving it manually to /var/www sounds unnecessary and a way to make sure updates don't happen
15:53-!-sneogd [~sneogd@h-11-135.a260.priv.bahnhof.se] has joined #debian
15:53<James2>ouldn't just use an Alias in apache to point at /usr/lib/roundcube?
15:53<James2>I tried but it'd give me permission denied..
15:53<James2>I tried to Chown roundcube with www-data but it still didn't work.

15:54<James2>So I moved it.
15:54<James2>And at least apache2 is sending the files to the browser. Apparently I may have broken some path or some dependencies.
15:54<blast007>look at the roundcube configuration file that you created. that's where the wmail issue is at.
15:55<jmcnaught>James2: /usr/share/doc/roundcube-core has an examples directory and a README.Debian, have you reviewed those?

15:58<jmcnaught>James2: that README.Debian has some notes that i think are relevant. I think you should also stop using a manual copy of roundcube's files (so that your copy of roundcube is updated by apt). Anyways good luck, i'll be AFK for a bit.
15:58<blast007>both of the options I mentioned have 'wmail' instead of 'mail'

21:50<jmcnaught>Juest: you could install one of the task-*-desktop packages, or use tasksel. Then you could also set the default systemd target to multi-user (instead of graphical)

21:51<jmcnaught>Juest: okay. i suppose you could also "systemctl disable gdm" or whatever DM you use, but if you don't want X to start you probably don't want systemd's default target to be be graphical.target
21:53<jmcnaught>Juest: if this is a headless system, you could probably also just install the X applications you want to run on it, and "ssh -X" into it to run them
21:53<Juest>im looking to have a full desktop in it, i plan to access it via vnc
21:54<Juest>yes its a headless server and i would like to avoid wasting resources by having X displaying on the server console
21:54<Juest>(its in runlevel 5 and i'd rather not change it)
21:54<jmcnaught>oh, not systemd?

21:55<Juest>(jessie server)
21:55<jmcnaught>that's normal. systemd is backwards compatible with init scripts, they get used if there isn't a service unit
21:56<jmcnaught>and some service units in debian actually just call the init script
21:56<Juest>some services are sysv only

21:57*Juest still doubts
21:58<Juest>also for X forwarding
21:58<jmcnaught>Juest: well systemd's target are a little more fine grained than sysvinit's runlevels. I'd say if you don't want X to start at boot, use the multi-user.target instead of the graphical.target. You might actually need a DM running to be able to VNC in though, I generally don't bother
21:58<Juest>im on a nonstandard ssh enviorment
21:58<Juest>i can start virtual VNC if needed
21:59<jmcnaught>As for easy CLI tool to manage services, it's systemctl (but you can still used the old Debian <=7 commands like service)
21:59<Juest>i listed both and the lists are differents
21:59<Juest>different*
