03:44<danlii>So I read that Iceweasel will be replaced by Firefox again, which shows at http://mozilla.debian.net/ as well, but how about Icedove? I haven't read anything about it. It should be the same there I guess. Anyone who knows?

03:46<bignose>danlii: as ith Iceweasel → Firefox, it requires work to do it.

03:48<danlii>bignose: Ah, thanks. The main article only mentioned Firefox/Iceweasel, so I started wondering.
03:53<bignose>danlii: yes, because only Iceweasel → Firefox has happened so far :-)

15:26<somiaj>ryan_: there are command line tools you can use to compare files by different things
15:26<somiaj>ryan_: though you may have to write a script (and test it and ensure you have backups)
15:27<somiaj>but getting a diff to determine if two pictures is teh same may take a while, so maybe take a small subset, test on that before running on teh full drive

15:30<somiaj>maybe take an md5sum or some other way to 'id' an image, and go though the images one by one
15:30<somiaj>as you do this write a database of md5sum's that have been found
15:31<somiaj>and then if any image gives the same md5 sum as on the list, delete it (or move it to a trash directry/list to deal with later)
15:31<somiaj>lots of different things you can do

15:31<somiaj>I don't know of any tool to do this already, but you coudl write your own (or just spend time with the mouse)
15:31<somiaj>standard give/take issue. Time it takes to write/test/use an automated script vs time to clicky on the mouse in a file manager
15:32<ryan_>I figured there were many ways, I'm gonna put my thinking cap on and try my first real useful script
15:32<ryan_>How do I get md5 sums?
15:33<retrospectacus>ryan_: start with; find /mnt/external -type f | while read f ; do md5sum "$f" ; done | sort | less
15:34<retrospectacus>it will take forever. Start with a small group of data as somiaj said
15:35<somiaj>might be worth modifying retrospectacus script and instaed of piping to less, redrect to a file, then you got a file list of the duplicates you can then edit/clean up and use later
15:35<somiaj>(as opposed to it just sitting ni the memeory of less)9

17:33<seanw>Wabuo: you could use debootstrap to install it to the hard drives. Not sure how you'd install the bootloader tho
17:33<somiaj>Wabuo: the installer has an ssh option but you need to physically select the first few options to use it
17:33<somiaj>Wabuo: there are preseeds to automate the install and as seanw metneioned, you can just use debootstrap on the harddrive, the bootloader is the hard part to install though.
17:33<sney>I would go with the debootstrap option

21:02<sney>I highly doubt it since the installer will still have to find the disk
21:02<sney>if it detected the disk with an existing partition table it would just show it to you
21:03<sney>if you still have a copy of the 8.2 installer you used last time, you could give that a try, since if you install 8.2 and apt-get update/upgrade it will be 8.4
