03:17<twb>!xorg.conf
03:17<dpkg>From Debian 5.0 "Lenny" onwards, xorg mostly configures itself. Resolution is set by your monitor/graphics card (unless they're broken), by your desktop environment or <xrandr>. From Debian 6.0 "Squeeze", input hotplugging saves duplicating settings and restarting X after changes. The /etc/X11/xorg.conf file is usually no longer needed and is often blank. Manual configuration is still possible, see <xorg manual config>.

05:08<dohnto>Hello, anyone is able to help with problem described in https://stackoverflow.com/questions/36743415/apt-get-install-specific-version-with-non-cadidate-dependencies ?
05:11<jm_>you could try using aptitude instead, but what I reckon will happen is it will present what you installed manually as one of the alternatives (maybe the first one, who knows)
05:13<dohnto>jm_, no I encounter this eventhough the package is not installed previously :( I choosed glibc just to demonstrate it, unfortunatelly it is installed, but I see the situation with my own packages

08:56<christoph_>hello, I've just set up a Jessie Server as a Domain member. however, wbinfo -u doesn't show users, while wbinfo -g shows AD Groups. In fact it seems that every wbinfo command works as expected except wbinfo -u. On my workstation everything worked fine with a similar setup (differend domain thouth) but since the security upgrade to samba 4.2 i get the same behaviour. Does anybody know something about this issue?

20:10<nick[0]>Hi. I'm wondering, how to tag a bug as fixed in version using bugnumber@bugs.debian.org. I know tags can be added by starting a reply to the bug's email like "control: tags -1 patch". Would it be "control: fixed -1 packagename/version" ?

22:39<sney>hastily googled examples have the # followed by a space, but the space probably isn't relelvant

23:08<descrip>I thought it was standard for unofficial packages to place themselves in /opt?
23:08<twb>descrip: there's no standard for unofficial packages :-)
23:08<jelly>descrip: that place -is- defined by FHS which debian follows
23:09<jelly>many vendors providing their own packages for debian do that

23:10<twb>I was just nitpicking
23:10<twb>By all means carry on
23:10<jelly>twb: descrip did not say the package they installed comes from Debian
23:10<descrip>Okay, so should I move the directory into somewhere like /usr/share?
23:10<twb>Granted.
23:11<twb>descrip: IMO you should pick a music player that is provided by Debian :-)
23:11<jelly>descrip: are you the packager?
23:11<descrip>No, downloaded the .deb from the creator
23:12<jelly>no need to move things around unless they're broken
23:12<descrip>Ok, so appending "/opt/deadbeef/bin" to $PATH is the right move
23:12<jelly>that, or symlinking the select few binaries to /usr/local/bin
23:12<twb>Yeah or if you are launching it from a .desktop, just put the full path in the .desktop
23:13<descrip>Would I have to do this for every package that is installed into /opt manually?

23:14<jelly>it depends on the package in question. Some vendors provide symlinks in /usr/bin within the packages (ibm and google come to mind)
23:14<descrip>But if they don't, you have to do it yourself. Okay, thanks!
23:14<jelly>descrip: so if you installed google-chrome-stable deb you wouldn't have to do that
23:15<twb>Hopefully you don't have many/any third party packages in the first place
23:15<twb>because e.g. they don't get security support
23:15<jelly>twb: correction: they don't get security support from Debian.
23:15<twb>Granted
23:15<jelly>twb: they may get security support from their vendor

23:16<jelly>and if it's a decent vendor they do.
23:16<twb>Although that would tend to assume you're installing via apt instead of dpkg -i
23:16<jelly>google-chrome routinely gets fixed before chromium
23:16<jelly>twb: not necessarily. mozilla's firefox build has its own update mechanism.
23:17<twb>What, so you dpkg -i install upstream firefox, and then it writes over the existing files?
23:17<twb>I've only ever seen webmin do that; it was abysmal
23:17<jelly>chrome is installed using dpkg or gdebi the first time, and then it sets up sources on its own
23:17<jelly>twb: no, firefox comes in a tarball.
23:17<twb>oh, right.
23:18<jelly>ibm doesn't get automatic updates but it does notify customers of fixes.
