Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See <smart questions><errors>.

20:53<_44trent3>uh oh
20:54<jmcnaught>_44trent3: i've never dealt with this problem before. You'll need to end those processes, and then you may need to remove the lock file from /var/lib/dpkg. then apt-get will probably complain about dpkg being in an inconsistent date that you might be able to fix with with the commands it suggests
20:54<jmcnaught>or with a command to remove the packages you were installing

21:04<gregm9999>hi, is this the help channel for debian??
21:04<jmcnaught>_44trent3: -9 sends the kill signal instead of the default SIGTERM signal. You can read about signals in "man 7 signals". Note that killing with -9 is a violent kill, it just forces something to close, while the default gives it a chance to close gracefully, close files etc
21:05<jmcnaught>gregm9999: hello, and yes it is
21:05<gregm9999> hi. how do i kill a process that still exists even i have used apt-get to remove it and it removed the program successfully? also have a connection to a port that is established but if i portscan it, the port is closed any ideas how i solve this?
21:05<gregm9999>process is xrdp
21:05<jmcnaught>_44trent3: using kill -9 on dpkg and apt-get is far from ideal
21:06<_44trent3>but it's my only option isn't it?
21:07<jmcnaught>gregm9999: did you purge or remove? is the /etc/init.d/xrdp file still there? Have you tried "systemctl stop xrdp" already?
21:07<gregm9999>i used apt-get remove to remove it off
21:08<gregm9999>didn't know i needed to remove xrdp from that location, i'll do that.
21:08<jmcnaught>_44trent3: unless you have some way of reattaching to it. I tend to run apt-get in a screen session so I can reattach to it if something happens. Might as well using pkill -9 since the damage is done, then try purging the packages you were installing and make a paste of the command and output
21:08<jmcnaught>gregm9999: i'm asking if it's still there, and if you tried stopping the service that way
21:09<gregm9999>i stopped it first
21:09<jmcnaught>gregm9999: i'm *not* telling you to manually delete those files

21:10<jmcnaught>gregm9999: apt-get remove does not remove config files (which includes init scripts). apt-get purge removes conf files
