03:55<hespe>hello everyone. i am a newb to Debian 8.4 and linux in general. I just installed debian 8.4 but when I boot up my laptop it goes into CLI. Is there a command to launch the debian GUI? or a way to change from booting to CLI to booting to GUI??
03:56<woodstokk1>have you installed a GUI?
03:57<hespe>i just installed the debian 8.4 OS
03:58-!-mode/#debian [+l 766] by debhelper
03:58<hespe>and when I rebooted after the install and selected the debian OS it launches into CLI
03:58<jm_>install some DE and it'll boot into graphical login manager etc.
03:58<hespe>i have rebooted twice, and still it boots into CLI
04:00<calops>if you haven't selected the DE option during the installation you won't have any by default, you need to install one
04:00<woodstokk1>you can check if there an DE installed with --> dpkg -l | grep task.*desktop.*
04:01<hespe>I didnt see anything stating that. what exactly is DE?
04:01<woodstokk1>Desktop Enviroment
04:01<hespe>cool thanks
04:01<calops>it should have been an option somewhere but it's no big deal, you can still install it
04:02<jm_>just run tasksel or use apt to install whichever you want

12:36<blu>hi guys. I'm looking for an easy to install password store with a webui. if it can export db's usable by keepassx that would be awesome. we need groups and permissions for those groups as well as storage of passwords encrypted. Any recommendations? I'm looking for open source software, preferably sth to apt-get, but setting up php and an nginx or so is also ok

22:19<dpkg>[crt] (Cathode Ray Tube) This is one of the main components of monitors and TVs. A beam of electrons is shot towards the CRT and as they collide with phosphors on the inside surface, they produce light. Today, other technologies are performing better than the heavy and bulky tube monitors. LCD panels and projection units are both in contention, but they still can't come close to the low cost of a CRT monitor or TV.
